Hello to all.
ive just got my GU back after getting a engine conversion done. Also got long range tanks put into both the main an sub. The main
tank is working fine, gauge in the instrument cluster is working. But the sub
tank doesn't seem to work, the gauge doesn't even move. ive filled it up. drained it. checked fuses all seems ok but was wondering is there anythin else i would need to check. not sure if the original sender from the
old tank would still work in the new
tank or not. but it was all fine with the old tanks.
any help or advice would be great.
cheers

I'd take it back to the installers and get them to fix it. There is no reason at all for the gauges not to work after fitting long range tanks.
Many people have installed long range tanks and the only problem that can (or more likely WILL) occur is that the gauge will have to be adjusted so that it will show 0-full when the
tank is 0 - part full. This is because the sender is not long enough for the extended depth
tank.

I agree with caravan haven
If it was OK prior to them working on it.
It Is Their Problem and THEY NEED TO FIX IT

Hi had similar problem with My 4.2,fixed it by disconnecting battery ,wait around 10 mins
Reconnected and working again. Nissan advised the cure.Problem was caused by Me removing the fuse, but needed resetting by battery disconnect .
Good luck, Cherry.

From what i can see from the wiring diagram there are 2 wires connecting to the sub
tank fuel sensor. One is Black which goes to ground, the other is Green/Yellow which goes via a couple of other connectors to the subtank control unit. The other connectors referred to are common to the main fuel
tank sensor as
well, so I cant see them being the trouble.
I guess the only things to try are:
1. Disconnect the plug at the subtank and connect a multimeter set to ohms to the Green/yellow and the black wires going to the sensor. It should read something other than infinity or 0 depending on how full your subtank is. If you can pull the sender out of the
tank then moving it up and down should show a corresponding movement in the ohms reading.
2. With the plugs in and the ignition on, use a multimeter set to volts and see if there is any reading across the G/Y and Black wires. It should read something.
BTW does the subtank light come on?.

Cheers for the tips Craven,
hope fully get a chance to check the wires over the week end.
as for the sub
tank light. it hasnt come on since i got the car back. unfortunitly i had to bolt back up north so taking it back to the guys that installed it is out for time being but they are aware and if needed any labour costs to sends to them so yeh.
Sub
tank is empty now as i drained it befor i left
perth. no point keepin that fuel in there if i couldnt use it.the
tank its self is easy to get out from what i can see.
cheers
