Our caravan has a Electrolux fridge, just above the fridge is a switch which appears to turn a fan on at the back of the fridge.I have looked in the manual and cannot find why and when this switch should be on.Would appreciate your feed back as we are in the
Darwin heat at the moment and anything to help the fridge would be great.

A lot of people including myself have put a computer fan near the back of the fridge to draw the hot air away and help the fridge run more efectively.
You will probably find the fan held to the outside vent by cable ties.
I have a thermostat hooked up to the fan which turns it on/off. In your case you may only have the on/off switch, therefore You should probably turn it on when you pull up for the night and only turn it off when you pack up.
Rockape may reply and show you a diagram etc which will enable you to put a thermostat in the setup to make it work automatically.

we are camped here for a few months so I should have the fans on during the hotter hours?

I would say yes with one proviso.
The fan may burn out if it is run continuously,
If you take the vent off the outside of the van can you see if there is a thermostat attached to the black pipe at the back of the fridge?
I'll see if I can find the diagram that shows the whole box and dice.

Also in high temp areas such as in
Darwin it may be a good idea to buy a wireless thermometer for the fridge... about $30 will get you one (ebay, Jaycar etc). This will enable you to manage your fridge temperature without opening the door to check how things are going. This will ensure you are not susceptible to food poisoning, or worse still, the beer gets warm. As with your fridge at home, you should manage your 'van fridge to 3 degrees.
Cheers
Greg
