Procomp Tyres - what a dissappointment

Any one had experience with poor quality of procomp tyres? I have (unfortunately) invested in 2 full sets of 31 x 12.15 rims (from pro comp) , one set fitted with Procomp All Terrains and one set fitted with Pro Comp Mud Terrains

The last 3 trips into the high country and I have lost 3 tyres - 2 sidewall punctures, one shoulder puncture. But. When I went to replace, Procomp Tyres no longer have the same size for sale. So now I find that they happily sold me rims and tyres and no longer have replacement tyres available.

The sidewalls in these tyres might as well be made from chewing gum. They really are very weak and quite poor quality.

So I went directly to ProComp in Hallam Victoria to find out why I couldn't purchase a replacement, and why the sidewalls were so weak. I was looking at huge advertising posters on their wall of "ProComp Winch Challenge sponsors" etc and was amazed to hear the staff tell me: "we don't advertise Procomp as a competition tyre, we advertise it as a tyre you can use around town and then go off road without having to change your wheels". Pretty poor in my estimation, and not what any intelligent person could reasonably interpret from the name 'Pro Comp'.

Now I'm stuck with 2 full sets of procomp supplied rims and there are no tyres I can find to replace the ones that have prematurely failed. They still have massive amount of tread left, but have to be thrown out because they are unrepairable because of the damage location, and the fact that they are just so weak in the sidewalls.

This is a very poor and incompetent product, procomp tyres have a very unsuitable backup system, and absolutely non-existent after sales service. They could have saved me thousands of $'s if they just told me "by the way, these tyres are really weak in the sidewalls, better suited only for the bitumen, and when they blow, you won't be able to replace any of them."

Worst tyre I have ever had on a a truck in 40 years of 4WD'ing

I'll Never use them again

Beware of this product!

We have had two sets of A/T procomps on our truck, got nearly 100 thousand out of each set, and not one puncture.

Likewise Trev it was my understanding that the standard Procomp tyres were the lighter duty on/offroad version but still the group of people I know that use them have had an excellent run even when heavily loaded on rough outback trips.
I've had a couple of sets of the heavier duty Xtreme Mud Terrains & found them bullet proof, excellent grip, reasonable wear, quiet for a Muddy & handle Ok. No punctures despite high speed offroad & remote desert cross country driving. Couldn't recommend them more as a great all round mud tyre.
Would be interesting to know your driving style & tyre pressures used when you got the damage. The wide tyres too increase the likely-hood of sidewall damage.
Better luck with your next choice.

I'm with Crackles on this one - I have the same x treme muds in 33" & have just returned from 3 months in the Kimberley - with only a few punctures & none were sidewalls. They were given a real hiding often spending alot of time completeley off track (chasing down Frank Hann boabs). If your tyre is stuffed just cut it open & compare the sidewalls to another brand - i reckon the Pro Comp sidewalls are stiffer than most as I need to run them at lower pressures than say BFG just to get them to bag out to the same degree.
