I recently done the usual free map update as I usually do when it it's available, but this time my Garmin 1490T went haywire in the routing, in fact it has been playing up in a minor way for some time..ie when programmed to navigate from
Orange to my Daughters Farm it would work out the route to within 2 Klms of the
gate then ask to do a U-Turn to approach from another direction, as I said that was minor, but after the last update it totally lost the plot..after a week of tests and trials it was useless, when I do the updates I also have the update installed onto the PC so I decided to re install the Mapsource from the PC,
well to my amazement the Unit has not worked so efficient since I bought it.
So if anyone else is having problems I would suggest re installing the maps direct off the PC , the next time I do an update I'll direct the update to the PC only then install the mapping to the GPS from the PC.

Doug, Haven't had that particular problem, but agree with your advise. Have found less issues over the years by putting the updates on the PC first, then upgrading the actual GPS from the PC.

I have the nuvi 2460 which has been a great unit. After the last update it now takes around 7 minute to calculate a route where it used to be done within a minute

Yes my 1490T was also taking a long time to calculate , especially when mobile.
If you can install the maps to the PC would be ideal, there's a button to keep an eye out for when doing the update, during the process watch for a button located at the bottom left of the panel, I think it's called Options. Click that and unselect the GPS and leave it set to install to the PC only. Then as I said install to the unit from the PC.

My daughter recently gave the
Cook and I a new Hema HN5i and it's absolutely hopeless with voice directions.
When we leave our place north of
Perth to go further north it keeps wanting to send us south on the freeway.
Pronounciation of so many roads is totally weird and hardly understandable. Plus the Igo street maps are
well out of date.
It also tells me when first switched on that the maps are out of date but when going to the update website it tells me there aren't any available.
Mmmmm me thinks it's not worth having and I'll stick to maps.

MMMMMM an interesting heading.
Lost GPS??
I figure we rely too much on these things and when they tell you to do a U turn many people just follow them
What happened to the good old "
Gregory's" and a little common sense.
Lost GPS or just Lost People.

Totally agree with Gemaac we will eventually lose the art of map reading particularly Topo maps.
Doug T.I also have a 1490T 2 years now and as each update became available I'd download it the find some problem or other. eg all waypionts (favourites) mixed up into different catagories etc etc. So now I dont update at all, as I mainly use the GPS for bush work (No changes generally)
and not for street by street guidance.
