Now all JLR have to is spend as much on misleading advertising as other makers do, you know, climbing mountains and fording impossible streams, plus expand the dealer network to what it used to be a few years ago at least.
Then make sure they can perform for ever with out maintenance as their rivals are reputed to do......

Danna,
When will you learn?

Landrovers do NOT leak oil, they just mark out their territory

Knockin' the good ol' Landcrab again....tch..tch

It is a well known fact that 95% of Landys ever made are still out there somewhere.

The other 5% made it back home...(;-))

Cheers

Guys,

you wouldn't believe it, but I still comparing my old Harry (Landy) to new Aproper (Troopy). Sometime I wish we didn't sell Harry.
They both up-to now always made it home, and we never wrap them in a cotton wool!
But Harry was most of time dribbling - even new...he was like old senile man.

I think you will find its well documented on all four wheel drive forums that modern four while drives aren't what they used to be. The cost to keep them going, and there reliability is not the same.
Excessive oil burning, weak front ends, etc show manufacturers are rushing things to the market. The ones that we have come to rely on seem to have lost their way somewhat.
But gee......the Land Rovers do look so much better than the plain run of the mill four wheel drives around.

My initial thought when I looked at that new model, the one in yellow, was that it was the product of a Freelander having been sexually assaulted by a Toyota FJ Cruiser.

I love Defenders, and also Hate them!!.......More Landrovers on the planet whats wrong with that...lol.......I just hope oneDay!!!!, they stop building them with all their annoying gremlins, ......actually if their faults were white ants there would be nothing left of the planet,...they really need to look very carefully at what motors they are sourcing for any of their new model lineups, because they have had a few shockers and not so long ago.

Cheers Axle.

I've had a Freelander 2 for the last 4 years and it has been everywhere, even very remote. It has never let me down, been places only reserved for low range crawlers in short, done everything I have asked of it. It is supremely comfortable and runs on the smell of an oily rag. In my opinion it would be hard for anyone to make a better car. The main thing I don't like about that DC100 is the wheels. Who thinks that 20" wheels with slicks that cost $500 minimum each is a good idea for a 4 wheel drive?

By the way, mine doesn't mark it's territory even after 144,000 kms.

Hi Mikehzz,
your Landy (Pretender .. that's how we use to call Freelanders) must belong to endangered category. I never heard of Landy that didn't dribbled.

pop2jocem,
good one ... LOL
I wouldn't say the same about our Harry the Landy ... but than again with bullbar, winch, double wheel carrier, set of spare tyres inside (as they were hard to get if damaged) and rooftop tent we where not travelling on light side......

It's got a Peugeot motor that's in a lot of cars including the diesel Ford Mondeo, newer diesel Mitsubishi Outlanders, Peugot 408 and Range Rover Evoques. It kicks butt with more torque than a 3 litre Nissan grenade but carrying a lot less weight. Laugh all you like, the forums are full of happy owners. It's a completely different car from the original Freelanders from the ground up.

love the Defender - got a Toyota now but will probably go back to another 'fender for offroad stuff. Really depends what you use it for. They'll tow a van slowly (not alone there) from Eden to Broome and there are more comfortable vehicles for that, but offroad, they'll climb trees.

I've just gone from a Prado back to a Defender. Certainly a different vehicle, not so much car as truck (but more comfortable off road) but the main difference for us is that we can take it where the Prado would have been scratched to hell.
Try through the Dale Cranegie from GCR right through to 80 mile beach with many side trips and you'll see what I mean.
Fuel consumption is about 25% better than a 120 series Prado as well.
We've now had 4 LRs including this one and the only one that leaked oil badly was a 300Tdi Defender and that was fixed by a decent mechanic.
A friend used to have an 80 series and you only had to walk past to get oil on yer clothes, certainly lost far more than it used.:-)

Hi AlanTH
We certainly don't have to be worry about paint scratching on our new Troopy. When we finish going bush (bush-bashing included) we sheer a skin off the vehicle and ...... whoopee ... rig looks like you just droved out of car yard.
Yep, we have OziCozi second skin....very good product.

yep - the scratches were one of the reasons we went from a LC100 to a Defender, loading stuff on the roofrack and bush scratches. We had a bloke with a Rangie in the club and you could hear the panic in his voice as he "enquired" over the radio "does this track get any narrower?" as the trees caressed his duco. It really is a compromise though and we have two 6ft+ teens who are just too big for the back of the 'fender and also, generally more comfortable and more power in the Prado. Another reason was finding a mechanic who could work on anything other than Toyota, Ford or Holden without a 3/4 hour return journey and then back again to collect. Too hard for us but really, the Defender is a great offroad experience and very easy to spec up for camping etc but there are more comfortable cars for long distance touring on the bitumen especially towing. All part of the fun. We did have some leaks in the Defender but none in the Disco, which was a lovely car, just thirsty, being a V8.
