Bigger lift?

Hi All, i'm currently in my fourth month of an around Oz trip. Started in Perth, went up the West Coast, thru the Kimberlys, down the Tanami, Uluru, Coober Pedy, Birdsville Track, Simpson Desert, and am now in Brisbane. Will be heading down the East Coast to finish in Melbourne. When travelling thru the Simpson, and on Fraser Island, having my tyre pressures down to 15 psi, i found the rear of my 80 series (i have an lpg tank) was hitting the ground a lot. I am carrying quite a bit of weight, both in the back and on the rack.
My question is, should i consider getting a bigger lift kit? It currently has a 2" lift, but was thinking i may raise to 5".
Also, what are peoples thoughts on air bag suspension? Advantages, disadvantages? And how do they work exactly?
Cheers

All suspension lifts never take into account weight..... your better option may be getting heavier springs in the rear.

Lift kits don't give you any advantage with weight carrying, all most are are longer springs.

Speak to someone like Lovell or King springs and give then the specs you need.

Our 200 series has very heavy 2 inch lifted springs in the front and rear as we have a 3800KG GVM over the standard 200 series 3350Kg.

If we took all the weight out it would ride that hard but the spring height would increase about 3 inches

The Hilux we had was set up very heavy with custom springs, when we sold it with all the gear and the second fuel tank removed it looked like we had a 7 inch lift in the rear.

There is a big difference spring height versus carrying capacity.

Hey there Daz,
Lifting 5" is asking to be pulled over down south apparently. We put heavy duty springs and shocks in ours with the 2"lift. We also had a Kamar rear bar with twin wheels, it sat well with the camper on the back but the tyres bulged no matter what brand. Some people love airbags but if you rely on them and they fail out in the back blocks your sagging problem will be back. You have made it a heck of a long way so far, souvenirs weighing too much lol.
Cheers
Sharon

Thanx Sharon, seems heavy duty is the way to go. Only souvenirs i have are a couple of old sleeper nails from The Old Ghan, an some opal jewellery for my girlfriend. And literally thousands of photos, and about a hundred videos...... Think i just packed a bit too much stuff.

Hey Jamdan

Just out of personal preference as I run air bags in my colorado, it doesn't matter what amount of weight your carrying you just adjust the bags to suit. Airs cheaper then springs. And you can have your cake and eat it too. Headin to the cape soon, your gonna find them hard to stake unless your running no air in them, they hold more weight then all of your leaves ever would. Each to their own though.

Although you've got an 80 series just thought I'd put my 2 bob worth in.
Here's an interesting link too that has more info on them.

Cheers Scott

Scott, be carefull where all that extra weight is being carried and focused on...

There's a few bent dualcab japper utes around overloaded fitted with airbags and bent/broken chassis.
