Good afternoon all,
Had my van serviced in
Perth & the relief drain valve for the Truma HWS replaced as it was leaking
water when hooked up to the mains, but not when using the
water from the on board tanks.
First use at
Esperance on the mains (with a pressure limiter at the tap) & the
thing is still leaking out
water. What I have discovered tho is that it is hot
water which has me stuffed as it is on the cold
water inlet side.
Now somebody out there may know what is going on, All I can think of is that some how
water pressure is being applied to the HWS thru the hot
water outlet, but I am a mere mortal. Please note the leak stops when we revert to the on board
water & pump. It keeps me occupied but drives the other half around the twist.

Hi Daz
Probably not much help but we had a similar problem with our Truma.
We were originally told we could hook it up to the mains if we kept the tap pressure down. We were not using a pressure limiter.
We subsequently found out this was incorrect and it was not to be hooked up to the mains at all. Our pressure valve had to be replaced.
The only thing I can suggest is that you try a replacement pressure limiter or only use your
water from the tank.
Sorry I can't be of more help.
Regards
Rowdy

Thanks for that Rowdy
I am going to post a follow up but you were pretty
well on the money. Some one had played around with my pressure limiter
Thanks

Gday daz
Just finished fixing my truma hot
water unit with a very similar problem. It was leaking near the cold
water inlet,the cold
water inlet runs in with the electric element which has a rubber O ring for the seal and this had blown out with a whoosh one night, hence the hot
water escapes. To fix just undo the two small nuts holding the element in and replace with a 32mmX2.8mm Oring not from the Caravan Repair
shop at $15.95 .Hope this is of some use.

G'day Daz.
The Temperature Pressure Relief (TPR) valve is there to protect the unit from excess
Temp or Press. There should be a metal tag on the TPR valve indicating the pressure and temperature limits, make sure the new valve has the same limits as the original, a higher rating will compromise the heater cylinder.
It is normal to have a small amount of hot
water escape as the
water heats up (expansion=pressure increase)
I have a different make of HWS and have not had any problems.

Thanx Pls see follow up.
the valve letting the
water go is a relief/drain valve for the Truma on the cold inlet . Not a temperature pressure relief, this is part of the hot
water outlet

Hi all I think problem solvered.
After a bit more checking I found that the AMOS adjustable
water pressure regulator ( I purchased this after buying the van) that fits to the
water source had been tampered with. I put it all back together & reduced the
water pressure & found the relief drain valve has ceased letting
water go. I did contact the caravan builder who advised "I should advise you to purchase a pressure limiting valve 350 kpa and that should solve your problem"
Now I find out that most vans have these fitted which protects the hoses, John Guest fittings, & HWS in vans . My question to the van builder will be why this was not fitted at build time. The AMOS pressure regulator can be varied from 35 KPA to to 850 KPA. The local caravan
shop in
Esperance tells me that John Guest fittings & Truma HWS should never be subjected to
water pressure over 350 KPA
Thanx to contributors, It is all a learning curve, with plenty of curve balls thrown Daz in
Esperance but soon to be home in SA
