Help with outback photo. Follow on from thread 96701.
Back in early July, I put up a thread about a wide panorama photo of the outback for the kitchen splashback.
Since then we took a “little” trip through
Mildura,
Marree,
Oodnadatta, Finke, MtDare The
Simpson Desert and then through
Birdsville down to The Flinders and home to
Canberra. And as luck had it we got the photo ourselves. We took bundles of them especially concentrating on the
sand dunes.
Well as luck will have it the chosen photo was not of the Simpson. For those who have driven between
Oodnadatta and Finke via Eringa
ruins they may
well recognise the scene below. Just north of
Hamilton Station and across the river on the right there is a cattle yard with one tree, a
water tank and a small dune. (Geo: S 26 41' 52" E 135 04' 44"). We stopped for a cuppa and I went to the top of the dune and took the photo below. Actually it is a combination of about 20 photo merged into one panorama with the trial version of photoshop.
When we got home and sat down with the kitchen designer and progressed to colour selections we then went through all the photos. And this one has all the colours of the kitchen in it. It just screamed out “USE ME”. And we are using it.
I just got the word from the printer who printed it on the glass that it looks better than expected. It will be installed this week.
So for those who followed my progress to get the photo for the kitchen, here is the panorama and I will post a photo of the whole kitchen after the splashback is installed.
I must be a sadist though. Can you imagine wandering out to the kitchen in the morning, making a cuppa and sitting down in front of it with your corn flakes. I would have only one thought; “How long would it take to pack the car?”.

Great pic Phil - & great concept - bringing the outback into the kitchen yet.
Never ceases to amaze me what can be achieved in this age of digital photography.

Thanks Phil. Did you click on it and get a slightly larger version. The main file is 17Mb and too big to upload. The one above is just 8Mb.
The thought did cross my mind, but I am retired and do not want to get into anything other than the car for a drive.
I just got a call from the actual glass splashback people who picked it up from the printers. They are impressed also. They asked if I wanted to drop in the see it. I would love to but the car is in for a pre trip inspection and service. I will wait until its installed at 8AM friday.
I wouldn't be surprised if the Kitchen designers want to come and take a photo. The interior designer wants to come and see it.
It's amazing what an affect this has had on all involved.

Just did the enlargement Phil - thanks for
the tip.
Also marked
the spot on my Google Earth in case I get lucky enough to head up there.
Not surprised at the interest in your project - I feel sure the concept will catch on.
Know what you mean about the lack on an urge to 'start a new project' - me too.

Thanks for your inspiration! We are about to redo our kitchen and I have been thinking of doing something similar with a child's drawing. Who did the printing? Who should I look for to do the design?

We used
The Kitchen Companyto do the design and they organised the splashback through
Toscan Glass for the splashback. The printing was done by
Hi-Res Digital Solutions.
We also got a copy printed on a 2.5M length of paper as a trial. Cost was $151 which was cheap considering the risk we were taking with the concept. One son has the paper version mounted and hanging in his hallway.
Yousee a lot of abstract and geometric one around and the only photo, or the like, that we have seen was a map on that TV show The Block.

Finally the splashback is in the kitchen. We are tickled pink. Like I said before "How long to pack the car and go back there".
Just need the lighting repositioned and the roller door on the cupboard at the end of the splashback installed and we are done. Then to pay for it!!! The glass with photo $550.
It looks better in real life than what it does in a photo.
Thanks for your interest

The son just arrived to have a look. His wife wants one also.
It has been a while and it took a whole trip to the Simpson to find the right photo.
It was taken at: S 26 41' 52" E 135 04' 44".

I think that I am missing something.
What do you mean by "scraps bucket"?

After you finish chopping your veggies etc you put them in a container of some sort (scraps bin) and then chuck 'em in the compost bin.
Looking at your photo the casual observer might suggest that cylindrical object behind the bush looks like one on those
bins you see at roadside stops..hence my connection. Taking nothing away from the photo though, it's very nice. Just my poor attempt at a joke (it is friday after all).

Gotchya
It is amazing what the eye can do to an object from the first casual look. It is about a 10000 gallon
water tank. We have arubbish bin on the back of the car and you cannot see it in the photo as the car is pointing towards the camera.
Maybe you can see the "cylindrical object" as a
tank now.
Cheers
