hi i have a 60 series with a 4.2 petrol.
im getting around 400-450 max kms from a 90 ltr
tank. Do you think extractors and k and n air system would help or is there anything else i can do also?

Have you thought about a Hiclone ??????????
Just kidd'n ------------------ don't go there.

To get more serious, extractors may help, as would a good tune-up.
Be mindful that aftermarket filters along the lines of your suggestion don't seem to fare
well off the bitumen.
A lot of research has been done regarding the efficiency of various filters.
The results were posted here fairly recently so a search should reveal.
At the end of the day you need to do for yourself a little cost/benefit analysis.
Not difficult ...
Write down the realistic value of your vehicle.
Then write down the cost of the various items and on the other side of the page the realistic expectations of what will be achieved and the fuel saving.
Tally the pros against the cons and put against the value of the rig and how long you intend to keep it.
There may be some monetary gains, or you may
well be just shifting the financial cost from one paddock to the other.

Gday
There is a
sign on the Mereni loop that says "liftum foot" that might help.

What engine do you have for a 4.2 in a 60 series?
With extractors and a free flowing exhaust it will help, as will fitting a Unifilter, not a K&N. Unifilters actually filter better than the OE paper, far better infact. K&N are big micron sized filters and let through anything but the big blowflies. If life is important I wouldn't use one.
Adjusting the engine valve clearances is often not done and is a vital adjustment if you are after economy.
Travelling at 90kmh instead of 100 will definitely save fuel.
Do you have a
snorkel which can be used to advantage and used to force air into the engine, this helps volumetric efficiency.
Ignition timing should be looked at and not just set to the manufacturers setting but adjusted to what your engine really likes. Someone who knows what to do there is essential. Most mukaniks just set to the manufacturers specs instead of tuning it.
Use tyre sizes which match the torque range/speed of the vehicle. If too big they just suck fuel because of the overgearing aspect and the engine is then not being operated in a zone where it's torque and fuel useage rate is optimum. Most imes people fit bigger tyres and fuel use also increases
well above expectations.

Although I won't go into the legalities here :---
But :----
Disconnecting the EGR by blocking the vacuum line does improve the economy and life of the motor.

Without knowing for sure I would imagine your car is a 4 speed manual. I would be sourcing a 5 speed overdrive gearbox. You would be amazed at the difference dropping the revs 4 - 500 rpm will do.
