OK...to start with is it hot dipped or is it Duaragal.
If it is Duragal...a steel product plated at the time it was milled.....Galmet Duragal is ya product...I've had a very good trot with it...it is a thinners bassed product intended for spraying, but with a quck hand it can be brushed....this is a product specificaly intended for touching and recoating factory plated steel.
If it is hot dipped, some would say it does not require painting......BUT..paint beats plate any day.....good paint over good plate is about as good as it gets.
You will need and etch prime.....the only easily available turps bassed etch prime I know is the Killrust product.....it is the turps bassed cousin of Wattyl SuperEtch whic I have had a good trot with and is
well respected........both single pack epoxy, etch primer, undercoat....
then select your top coat......Kilrust Enamel, is respectable if you want to brush and is a single pack epoxy enamel.
The etch prime followed by enamel will be fine on duragal too.
remember you will need to scrub and solvent wipe first....for this use GP thinner.
cheers

Hi Tony
Through work we use a product called rust bullet - Google it - its the toughest product I've come across its brushable and has a finish like hot dip, use the automotive grade the industrial grade is hard to get a good finish
We use it in the sewerage industry and you cant get a more aggressive /corrosive environment than that
A company at Nambour is the importer "McBerns" and no I have no other association other than use their product
If you want I could send you a small sample painted on some steel so you can see what its like
Cheers Kev

The only drawback to this plan, is you have to do it lying on your back under the van.
Long sleeved shirt, long duds, gloves or big bottle of turps to get it off every square inch of your skin (and face!)
Great job but it needs to be done from time to time.
LOL (lots of luck)
