Hi Lux Sue
Hi members, My drive is a 2006 Toyota Hi Lux. I'm new to this
forum and needing some help with a blocked air con
water outlet hose. I had this problem once before and took it to the garage to get it unblocked but didn't have time to hang around to see how the job was done, now I need to have it done again. Unemployed now so have to do it myself. Can someone please explain to a novice how this might be done. The mechanic said he blew it out. I have a compressor. Looking forward to a not too technical reply. Cheers Sue and Thanks.

G'day Sue
Grab yourself a wire coat hanger, cut it and open it up.
Now have a look underneath the car more or less at the front of the footwell.
You should see a short length of rubber hose pointing down, probably on the passenger side, but could be either as I'm not familiar with the Hi Lux.
When you locate it that's the drain from the AC. Now carefully insert the wire up the hose and you should be able to free the blockage. Just go easy to make sure you don't pierce the hose.
You may cop a bit of a shower when it clears.

G'day Sue
I would be doing the same and if it was blocked by dust on the inside it that process should clear it.
Is the vehicle parked in the same place for long periods?
If it happened just recently when mud wasps are active they may have deposited babies in mud inside your drain hose.
After
clearing, if is muddy/crusty which came out, I would lightly tie a piece of gauze or nylon stocking over the end of the tube so the
water can come out and the wasps can't get in to block it again.

Using wire is a good way of damaging the evap core, we use a cable tie...... on Hilux's it's dash out to replace.... 5-6 hours.
The other thing is use compressed air to blow up the drain tube and then use a garden hose on low flow to was it out.

Hi guys thanks for the replies. I tried the wire up the pipe last time it blocked and it wasn't flexable enough but will give it a try again. My fear is that wasps have clogged it up and yes it is parked in the garage and only driven once or twice a week. The other problem is that once, I put the selector on fresh and it blew a heap of leaves into the thingie somewhere as that's what the mechanic said he mostly blew out of it so I'm worried that some of the leaves or what ever, are still part of or most of the problem. Thanks again I'll have another go at it. Cheers.

Find someone with a compressor and blow it out with compressed air works a treat.

Hi,
If You can get a length of flexible hose that will fit over the drain hose (underneath the car) blow into this, that will clear the blockage. Some of the leaves will wash out with the
water. Yes it will recur as it has since the mechanic probably did the same.
Keep the flexible hose for next time.
Mike.

It might pay to spend $30.00 and put a cabin filter in behind the glove box, 2005-2008 didn't have them fitted from the factory, 2008- did.

If you blow back up the outlet hose you only shove the gunk back to where it can block the hose again at a later date. If you go to the passenger side footwell and remove the panel around the centre console (just in front of the gearstick) you can see the drain tray and hose. You can easily pull the hose off (but keep a finger on the drain tray outlet or you get
water everywhere). Blow the hose out and replace.
Mine was blocked with grass seeds after driving around the paddocks one summer. If you intend to do more work on the Hilux, Haynes have recently released a workshop manual for your (and my) model (
http://www.haynes.com.au/prod2237.htm).

Thanks for all your replies! I think I will try the 'remove panel and find the drain pipe and blow out with the compressor idea' I think this is what the mechanic did last time it was blocked. Going by what the mechanic said he did last time that was it, but I had absolutely no idea how to go about it so thanks for pointing me in the right direction. I will have a chat to my son about the filter thingy to stop gunk getting in there as he is a toyota parts interpreter but did know how to clean out the pipe and being on holidays couldn't ask for me. Glad I have found this
forum. Cheers.
