Hi All

I have bought an Ezytrail camper trailer which has 10" electric brakes. From what i can see the wiring goes from each wheel and then goes up to the draw bar and joins the other brake lights, indicator wires at the 7 pin plug. Does this mean that the 7 pin plug is powering the trailers brakes or is there furhter work needed to get them working. I cant really tell if they are working or not at the moment?

Any advice would be great.

Thanks

Do you have a seperate electric brake controller in the tow vehicle?

An electric brake controller sends an electrical via the 7pin plug to the trailer brakes. This controller adjusts how much brake is applied to trailer. Or something like that.

Without this controller, i'm guessing your trailer brakes are currently nor working.

You must have a brake controller fitted to the vehicle and the output wire of that controller runs to the 7pin plug and the pin which is used supplies the brake system with varied voltage/energy level according to the rate of braking.

It does not connect straight to the stop light wires. If it did you would have the brakes fully on or fully off and no control over the locked wheels on the trailer.

Type in the search area at the top right corner brake controller. There you will find what the brake controller is all about and a lot more information that you may need on towing.

You can also fit the controller to the trailer rather than the vehicle itself. We have trailers that are towed by various vehicles which are set up this way.
Not as 'flexible' as an in car controller, but much less hassle, and you do have a trailer with brakes on every vehicle, rather than just those that have controllers.

Thanks peoples. I will look into a brake controller. Is this easy enough to fit myself. I was looking at the Tekonsha prodigy model. Saw one on Ebay for $80.
