Comment: Hema Navigator 6

Hi - I purchased my HN6 from EO 6 months ago and have done a Melb to Flinders Ranges, then Melb to Mt Dare, across the Simpson and home. The unit was great!
I am puzzled by one thing, in 4WD mode there are 2 numbers on the top right of the screen ie 636 740 and for the life of me i cannot find out what they are? Anyone have any ideas?
Thx Tim

Hi timboc

I don't have a HEMA but it looks like a 6 figure UTM grid reference for the map currently on the screen.

You may be able to get rid of it in the settings

Cheers

Hey Tim

It is a UTM grid reference.

Have a look at the link below -around about page 135. It tells you how to set it so just reverse it to unset it

Ahaa. Thank you so much, this has puzzled me since purchase. I had better look back through my manual, must have had a male read of it. Cheers Tim

Hi tim I bought the vms and have had troubles ever since and wish iI didnt. How did the hema 6 perform. Did you have satellite reception all the time and how did you find the maps, were they good.I was told the 6 was more for caravaning and not so much for off road by the people at the place I bought the vms from. They said the 5 was the off road version. Obviously not where you have been with it.

Hi v8 troopy

From what your have just said, take the VMS back and demand your money back for giving you the biggest load of bull that I have ever heard from people that have no idea of what they are talking about.

The new HN6 is identical to the still current HN5i in every way, just the bigger screen. The Hema will work anywhere in the Australian outback end of question.

How do I know, we'll I have the original HN5 and now the new HN6 and I have used them in remote outback location with no problems what so ever.

I am just one very happy customer of Hema products and will defend them every time when I hear the complete untrue spoken from people that have no idea what so ever.

Cheers

I second what Stephen L says.....I have the Hema 5 it has performed impecably over many a trip. I don't see any reason to "upgrade" to the newer versions either as the 5 is running just as well as it did when I first got it about 4-5 years ago. I don't use the Street Directory in it and just use my Navman MY75T for this purpose.

Does the Hema turn on & off automatically with the ignition like the Garmin? My Navman MY75T doesn't & after using Garmins it is very annoying.
Also, as Navman uses the Hema maps, what makes the Hema GPS better? Thanks

@ Shaker.....nope but I don't find that to be problematic personally as I just leave it on when on the road and turn the screen to sleep of a night. I have my power outlets wired to the auxiliary batteries ( 2 x 110 AH) and as the GPS units draw so little power there's no issue for me.

PS - I just noticed that the HN6 has dropped significantly in price since I bought my HN5 - I paid $990 and the Exploroz Shop has the HN6 for $699 - probably still overpriced but with all the maps included is not too bad a deal IMHO.
