Now we're not big users of caravan parks, preferring
bush camps where possible. But every so often on a trip we do stop at CPs. Occasionally we have come across CPs or organised
camp grounds that put on a Happy Hour. These can be fun and a good way to meet with other travellers.
On our trip this year we encountered a good one at
Kalbarri at The
Anchorage - small cost for a BBQ sausage in a roll, BYO - maybe 80 people attended. At Cape Arid in the NP campground the
camp hosts organised a small get-together one evening in one of the
camp kitchens. We sat around by candlelight and sampled some smoked fish and of course exchanged travel tales.
Over the years we have encountered similar events put on by
camp hosts in various WA National Parks - Kennedy Ranges and Bungle Bungles come to mind. And there are the talks etc that are arranged by the Big 4
park in
Alice Springs.
Have others joined in and enjoyed similar happenings - where are the good HOs to be found?

Happy Hour at Kalbarri - early on.
Cheers,
Val

Hi Guys
We have found a good impromtu gathering occurs at
Copley CV
Park S.A.- for a while they
also had morning talks.
They are a bit less formal than some other
places and always have a big nightly fire around which people gather.
Of late though they have moved a bit towards accomodation units at high prices and this tends to gather a less bushy cliental.

We prefer
bush camping as
well, but a couple of years back we stayed at the
Copley CVP waiting for friends to come down from
Birdsville.
On checking in the receptionist at the time told us the nightly charge, but wouldn't take the money, insisted on us paying the next morning,
well the next morning we found out why, went into pay, and was informed that if we hang around for a few more minutes there will be free coffee/tea and scones with jam and cream.
You then have another chat to other caravaners, next thing you end up staying another night.
One smart lady.
Cheers
Baz

Quilpie
Quilpie is another. They encourage
young families to join in what first looks like
Grey Nomads laughing their heads off realy enjoying each others company. They had all the kids playing music while the adults sang. It was an unreal atmosphere. Hence we stayed another night.
