Is there any problems with travelling from Morgan S.A. to Cockburn S.A. to get to Broken Hill. Do I have to let any one on the route know that I may be passing through their station properties.

Do you have a good reason to take the station roads rather than the main roads via Burra? According to my trip planner, which would i think only use public roads which most station roads are; from Morgan to Cockburn via the station roads is 370 kilometres and 390 via Burra and the main routes, the latter having an estimated time of half that of finding your way through the dirt roads.

The Morgan Mail Run. We took our caravan on this several years ago. Parts of the track were covered with water and the road surface had turned to jelly in patches. We bogged the caravan and had to dig it out. After this we turned north to leave the track. When dry there are no problems, only a lot of grids and a few gates, we got friendly waves from land owners who were fencing along the track.

Try heading north east from Morgan out through Pine Valley and Sturt Vale and then on up to Yunta. From there it's a short run on the black-top through to Broken Hill. Dirt/gravel roads all the way up from Morgan to Yunta. Did this route a number of years ago on the Vic. Variety Bash and there was heaps of corrugations. No idea as to the road conditions at the moment but you should check it out on Google Maps.

Hi Grant

There are a number of ways to get to Broken Hill from Morgan via the eastern Station Country that you are referring to.

Firstly proving that you do not leave all the main roads, you are driving on gazetted public roads that are open for anyone to travel on without any consent from the stations that you will be travelling through. Be aware that you will have no phone coverage anywhere through that country, so a UHF would be the bare minimum that you would want to have as communications. The Station People out that way are all friendly and will offer help if needed.

Get caught doing the wrong thing, like shooting driving on a closed road if it is wet or being where you should not be and you will see another side of station people that you will not want to encounter.

There are many fine tracks through that area and the mail run was in first class condition only a few months ago.

Cheers

Stephen
