Don't know if true but was sent to me! Has some merit maybe?

This one is for all to read and then share...might help save a life.

Now this is very interesting! My car's manual says to roll down the windows to let out all the hot air before turning on the A/C. WHY ?

No wonder more folks are dying from cancer than ever before. We wonder where this stuff comes from, but here is an example that explains a lot of the cancer-causing incidents.

Many people are in their cars the first thing in the morning, and the last thing at night, 7 days a week.

As I read this, it makes me feel guilty and ill. Please pass this on to as many people as possible. Guess, its not too late to make some changes.

Please do NOT turn on A/C as soon as you enter the car.

Open the windows after you enter your car and then after a couple of minutes, turn ON the AC .

Here's why: According to research, the car's dashboard, seats, a/c ducts, in fact ALL of the plastic objects in your vehicle, emit Benzene, a Cancer causing toxin. A BIG CARCINOGEN. Take the time to observe the smell of heated plastic in your car when you open it, and BEFORE you start it up.

In addition to causing cancer, Benzene poisons your bones, causes anemia and reduces white blood cells. Prolonged exposure can cause Leukemia and increases the risk of some cancers. It can also cause miscarriages in pregnant women.

The "acceptable" Benzene level indoors is: 50mg per sq.ft.

A car parked indoors, with windows closed, will contain 400-800 mg of Benzene - 8 times the acceptable level.

If parked outdoors in the sun, at a temperature above 60 degrees F, the Benzene level goes up to 2000-4000 mg, 40 times the acceptable level.

People who get into the car, keeping the windows closed, will eventually inhale excessive amounts of the BENZENE toxin.

Benzene is a toxin that affects your kidneys and liver. What's worse, it is extremely difficult for your body to expel this toxic stuff.

So friends, please open the windows and doors of your car - give it some time for the interior to air out -(dispel the deadly stuff) - before you enter the vehicle. Other than travelling in highly congested traffic, try and use air from outside your car and not recycled air whenever possible especially on long trips.

Thought: 'When someone shares something of value with you and you benefit from it, you have a moral obligation to share it with others.'

Interesting thread, have you ever wondered what that white film is on the inside of the windscreen especially after a hot day.
While the second link seems to think no harm done I think from now on I will open the windows as advised.

Thanks Bill

I always have my window open an inch on drivers door on hot days either at work or the shopping centre car park for that exact reason (I have weather shield so rains not an issue). I have read that before about the plastics. I always wondered why I kept getting a film on the inside of my windscreen, apparently this is from the plastics as well. I also put the windows down for the first 5 minutes, not just because of the toxins but also pushes the hot air out (even with drivers window down an inch it gets bloody hot). Half the time I drive around with air on and window down. Im not huge on using aircon but when I do I like it to work well. I know having window down doesnt help but I like the fresh air as well and wife likes it like ice lol.....Luckily my air in the prado is like ice so I send all the vents her way and just have the little one open on my side, unless its 40c then its all windows up other wise I enjoy the heat......wife hates it..................

.

Interesting topic Bill,

Having worked in the petrochemical industry for many years I am aware of the toxic materials used to manufacture plastic components. In fact I believe my health has been somewhat affected by breathing the vapours in these manufacturing plants.

As to the article you referenced, I'm not convinced of its full accuracy and facts. Nevertheless, I would believe that the plastic components within a car interior do continually release some components. The deposition on the glass interior is perhaps evidence of this. Whether it is benzene or otherwise I cannot be comment on, but whatever, I would not think it to be healthy. Even in our homes we experience many synthetics from furnishings and floor coverings but the situation may be worse in a car with reduced natural ventilation and often high temperatures affecting the plastics.

I am of the habit of opening the windows of my car parked in sun in order to quickly displace the interior air which is much hotter than the outside ambient. The windows stay open or partially so for several minutes until I feel that the hot air has been purged. Provided that I am not in heavy traffic (exhaust fumes) the air conditioner is usually also operating at this time in the "Fresh Air" mode and remains in this mode for some time. So in doing this I am also purging the possible toxic vapours. I must confess that I am not so disciplined to do this purging if the car is not hot.

The plastics component most likely to evaporate is the "plasticiser" thus you may notice how plastics become more brittle with age. I have noticed that both the smell and the deposition on the glass is more noticeable with a newer car as these plasticisers are released so perhaps the problem is more pronounced in a new car, lessening with age? No scientific evidence of that but it helps to justify my retaining my 7yo Camry and 10yo Troopy. LOL

Don't use aircon any way, but it could explain the asthma like symptoms I sometimes get when first entering the car after sitting in the sun for a while.

Like Allan and Kimba I didn't think about the risk of whatever is being released by the plastics but have always driven for some time with the windows down and the air con on hot days just to get rid of the hot air trapped in the car. I also usually have the vents set to fresh rather than re-circulate.

Classic for of spam mail........ every thing in life gives of chemicals from the cloths we wear to the shampoo we use and every where we go your bombarded with chemicals.

I would love to see there data to prove it saves lives.

Alcohol and cigarette are a chemical with far more dangerous outcomes.

It's good for a laugh and I am surprised people take this seriously.

The simple way to solve this is move to a small island with nothing on it or sanitse your house and don't go out.

It's a good joke......

I saw an interesting abc doco once and they said your toothbrush ,hairbrush etc is killing you as well any product made of plastic it starts breaking down from the day it was made so there's not much we can do. Just another wonderful invention that's killing us
