JQ
I have a Rodeo, 4wd manual, 18 months old, 51,000km, & have done a clutch. Dealer says it is not covered under warranty & will cost in excess of $1600 to fix, however I contacted GMH & they are reviewing the "warranty issue", but they say it will take 2 weeks!!!!!!!!! Great service, I must say!!! Has anyone else had a similar problem?

JQ is termed "abuse" by GMH dealer have had a few replacements and just 5 year old ute. Think you may be lucky with the $1600 too. I think I can get all the records for the replacments here but goes back about 3-4 years. The dealer reckoned it was not a warranty issue and didn't even look like budging on it.
I won't have another one believe me!!!!! In SW Victoria JQ Regards

Turbo diesel and no beach work at all. Nearly all paved roads or tracks. Is a
farm vehicle, a lot of time with little load.Regards

seems strange! most of the clutch cases that have been done are due to over heating from towing or beach work and also clutch shudder. 99.9% of cases i know of are approved for warranty and the vehicles are fixed. if they are repeat vehicle's coming back then the case would be researched into further.( ie. owner abuse). where are you situated?

LBJ am on, or for messages on 0408 354 734. I was very dissapointed with the attitude to it by the workshop at the time. It has had quite a few different drivers though. It does some towing but most likely with a single axle 6'x4'. Regards

Hi LBJ, it is a V6 & I have only done about 200km on the beach, has not done any heavy work & only towed a 600kg camper trailer. Holden phoned me today & said I should get an answer by tomorrow. I wait with baited breath!

JQ,
doesnt matter how many k's it's done on the beach....if sand gets into the clutch...no warranty.
Weipa mech told me this when I asked about
mine when it felt like a truck clutch after driving in sand.

this is the 3rd time i have tried to write this as i type my response and post I get prompted to log in again..... You press back and all what u type is gone. Here is a quick sumary.
Presureplate failed at 58k, changed under warranty. If it wsa found that there was abuse etc it would of cost $1600.
30k later clutch only disengaed with last part of clutch pedal. holden replaced output shaft housing bearing carrier and trust bearing. prob could of got away with cleaning and lubing as bearing carrir was binding on output shaft housing.

saw this a few times on previous model rodeos at dealers, seemed like the pressure plate kept loosing tension on the fingers, one ute was a fencing contractors rig which carried a toolbox weighing about 400 kg all up, after 2 years he had had the rear leafs reset 2 times with new bushes etc, had 2 standard clutches as
well. used to end up with loss of travel in the clutch pedal . i never got to work on it , i was too busy fixing clutches on gen3 ss's !!
Squeese the dealer about it, if you have to fork out your own money, get an aftermarket quality unit from an expert like
adelaide clutch
services.Moo... everyone knows what a Jackaroo looks like :-)

Hi All, thanks for your responses. The good news from Holden today is that they will cover the repairs under warranty.
Thank goodness I was prepared to take the matter further & not take the initial prognosis from the dealer as "gospel".

Yeah, we had a similiar problem when using these vehicles for field service units in the earth moving industry. Good buggy, except for the clutch on the earlier models. We simply waited 'till the warranty period was over, told the dealer to get stuffed, bought the boys in the workshop a slab, and changed the clutch ourselves. However, we machined 1mm of the step in the flywheel, putting
the springs under a little more tension. No more slip problems. Helps if you drive them a bit like a RoadRanger box too, ie double clutch.
Mine's been in sand, mud, winched by a Hilux, and still the clutch is OK, after 95000km
