Looking at new tyres (265/70x16) for my Navara 3.0L STR and had just about made up my mind on a set of the new Bridgestone 694 A/Ts when the dealer traded in a set of
Dunlop AT1s off a new Cruiser Ute (fitted as OME) and offered them as an economical alternative.
The price is almost too good to pass up and would work out around $350 less than the 694s for the set.
Does anyone have any
feedback on the
Dunlop AT1s (good or bad) so that I can make a more informed decision.
Cheers.

G'day DD,
Took the HTs off at 35000 with 1/3 tread left and put them on my trailer. Absolutely terrible. It was either that or die the next time it rained. They were deadly on wet bitumen with serious aquaplaning and even the Bridgestone dealers will admit they are a hopeless tyre.
I fitted Pirelli Scorpions and have done 70000 on them and they still have about 10000 or 15000 left in them (still good in the wet too).
The 694s are $245 (over the phone quote without haggling) and are getting a great writeup on www.tirerack.com in the states (they are called a Dueler Revo over there but it's the same tyre). The 694s are polling
well above the Pirellis otherwise I would probably put Pirellis on again.
I'm only considering the Dunlops due to the great price deal as they are "as New" tradeins. My concern is the possible "Trade off" in terms of on and off road performance.
Cheers

G'day Toonfish,
No. The standard tyres are 255/70 x 16 and you can legally go up one size.

Yeah Mate,
The four spokers that are standard on the Diesel STR. In fact I think they are now fitting them to the new 3.3 V6 as
well.

Slider,
A few comments. I had
Dunlop Grandtrek AT1 (265/75/16) on my cruiser ute and found them to be excellent. They handled beach, gravel, the cape and lots of paddock bashing and I only ever staked one and it was so bald it wasn't even legal.
I've since replaced them with AT2's, and here's where I'm going to start picking your dealers story apart. AT1's have been superceded for at least 18 months and I was also of the opinion that they were never standard equipment on cruisers. The standard tyre is a
Dunlop Grandtrek, but it is another designation with a 90/10 on/off road designation with a softer compound.
So, if they are in fact Grandtrek AT1's or the newer AT2's, a great tyre. Just make sure that your getting what your quoted. For interest sake, I paid $1020 for 4 tyres fitted and balanced 12 months ago.
Cheers
Craig
