Has anyone traveled the Castlereagh Hi way lately

Hi All,
We are heading down to
Canberra over X-Mass, and was wondering if any fellow travelers have driven the Castlereagh Hi way,from
St George to Dubbo through Walget. Last time I was down that way was after the 2012 floods and the road wasn't that great,not sure if the road works are completed.
Would I be better going the long way through

Went up that way late August this year, a lot of road works around Diranbandi then but had progressed a lot further than when i was there in March with
water still over the roads.
The road is ok for towing.
