Drawing lines on charts/maps .....

I use my Magellan 320 & OziEx to record and subsequently plot my track when yacht racing. I wanted to draw the Race Start and Finish Lines on the chart. It's virtually impossible to do this accurately using a drawing program. The best I've managed is to add the Start and Finish Line buoys to the chart as map features. Using Create Track Points, I inserted TP's on both sets of buoys and then displayed the tracks. That works fine but I have to load these for every race. Does anybody have a method of making accurate lines on charts which are permanent so that they load with the map file?

Auntie Podes,

The answer will be found in opening the map image file, not the .map file and creating a line on that map. However, you're indicating you have tried this with a drawing program and it won't work.

Can you let us know what drawing app you have tried and someone with knowledge of how to draw a line in an image will be able to help.

On OSX, the free Preview app does this easily and you simply re-save the file as PDF, PNG, JPG or TIFF as you wish. No idea about PC applications, but assume they have something similar. If you save the map image file to a different name or format, you will have to recalibrate it when you import it back into Ozi. If you keep the file name and type the same, it should work fine.

Wouldn't the start line be relaid for each race to allow for wind direction?

Hello

Two ways you could do this without modifing the actual image.

Create a track file of the lines you wish to diplay in Ozi and save it, then use "File - check calibration of map". In the Options section you can load a track file and then save the calibration file (*.map) which will then load the track file everytime that map file is opened.

Other way is to create a project in OziExplorer (use Options - Project Manager). With this function you can associate map and tracks (and waypoints etc) together as a "project" and then when you open the project all files are loaded together.

Read the help file for more specific instructions.

Cheers
Greg

Thanks everybody ....

Tim - The problem was putting a straight line at the correct angle in the right spot with no ref points.

Shaker - No - the buoys are opposite the club house and semi-permanent.

Gramps - "Projections" doesn't look hopeful.

The Explorer (?Al?) has the solution - I've just tried it and it works a treat. I must now add all the race marks and buoys around the bay to save loading them every time.

Many thanks to all of you, and a great Xmas and New Year.

Can't remember the details but pretty sure you can use the Project Manager function in Oziex to load Tracks, Map features, lines etc etc every time you load a particular map.
