Hi all, my sons and I are planning a through trip over the Victorian High Country in Jan 2013 leaving from Moe and heading to Thredbo and I can't seem to find anywhere approximate travel times for any of the tracks that we would be looking to travel. I realise this can be a bit like asking "how long is a piece of string" but obviously normal distance calculations won't work. A track of 100 km could take three days or more in 4WD conditions, but could also only take 4 hours. Specifically I would like to know Licola to Dargo, then to Swifts Creek and on to Tom Groggin. Any help would is greatly appreciated.

When we were there a few years back in January we headed in via Sheep Yard Flat and up into the scrub. We found we generally took about 5 hours to travel 50km with no trailer.

Shirley,

I reckon if you average 10kph you'd be close to the mark.

It's best not to rush it anyway. It's safer and you can take plenty of pics, videos.

The problem is Shirley that it depends which route you are planning to take. Apart from descending Billy Goats Bluff between Licola and Dargo, you could do the rest on two wheel drive roads. But if you take in Wonnangatta between licola and Dargo and the Davies High Plains between Benambra and Corryong, it is 4WD. Both those trips would take a good two maybe three days each if sight seeing. Unless you really want to get off road, Dargo High Plains to Mt Hotham and on to Omeo is a great sightseeing drive. Paps.

Gday Paps
I found a Holden comodore half way from Dargo to Swift Creek a few years ago.Had a radiator problem. Wouldn't hold water. After five minutes and a little water she was on her way back to Dargo.
