I almost killed my van batteries by leaving 12 volt lights on while the van was parked up in the shed. My question is there an low voltage battery supply isolator which I can have in line with the manual one to guard against the idiot factor.

Not sure what sort of van you have, but the Jayco campers have a switch that isolates the power when the roof is down. If you have a pop top could put the switch there for storage, unless you store with the roof up.

there are plenty of under voltage battery protection devices on the market.

alll the usual suspecs should have one.

jaycar have both a kit and a ready built under voltage cut out, they also have a prograble buggery box that can do many things...under voltage cut out being one of them.

cheers

Agree with Bantam, you need a Low Voltage Cutout, all your load goes thru this device and when the battery voltage reached a predetermine point, eg 11.5 v ,or 12v etc. all the load is cut off.

So if your watching TV at 11pm and lose all light/TV, you then know you have reached the pre determined low voltage point.

Similar if you leave the lights on when in storage, lights will be cut off.

If you have Sola and your load goes thru certain controllers, they can act as cuts offs as well.

Cost around $50.

Just remember a low voltage cut out may not have saved your battery. All it would do is leave your battery in a nearly flat condition. Several weeks in that condition and it would have sulphated up,if not dead it would be reduced in capacity.

If you want to save your battery from that sort of neglect I suggest you install a solar panel out in the sun somewhere and cable it to your van.

Thanks for advice. I will take action on this. I will be installing solar later and I have 240 v0lt with inbuilt charger in the shed as well as a generator. As I stated this will be another control for the idiot factor

Each time I park up in the shed I plug into the 240v supply and my Redarc BMS 1215 maintains good battery condition. Still not smart to leave the lights on though.
