I'm looking for a cheap easy to get solution for the dreaded bush pinstriping that comes from driving narrow fire trails with spiky bushes each side. I've heard of paint on hose off coatings that can protect the paintwork but never really seen them around. What do EO users use and where do they get them? Cheers.

Hi mikehz

I have just done the Anne Beadell and Holland track and use this stuff called "Goop", it worked a treat. No scratches and the stuff just peeled off when I had finished with it. I would cetainly recommend it.
web is www.goopguys.com.au or 1300 67 4667

No affiliation just a happy customer.

Hi Mike

I tried it for the first time this year, and I can assure you that I will never ever go bush again without using it. I purchased mine from Queensland and arrived in only 2 days.

I used a cheap 4" roller for the sides of the car, and the first coast Fiona said "what have you done to our car". It dried to a dull finish and when you touched the side of the car, it felt a bit like rubber.

Here is the address that I purchased it from:

goGREEN Enterprises Pty Ltd
Temporary Protective Films
Phone: 07 55 221 366

Here is a link to show you how it works:

http://www.gogreenprotectivefilms.com.au

Here is a picture of it starting to peel off of my car after some rather tight bush situations. It remove it, just wet the car and it peels off it large sheets, just like glad wrap.

One very happy customer.

Cheers

Hi Mike

I did not put the photos in, as I was in a hurry to head off to work.

Here are 2 images and they speak for themselves. I gave the car 3 coats, but could have given it more.

I did what they suggest, and gave it a usual polish before adding the product. The next image was taken when we arrived back at Emu after heading up on the Dingo Track.

Like I said, it is the cheapest pre trip investment that you can buy and at only $39 a litre, it should be on anyones list that goes bush. As for removing it, it is just like in the link I included.

Cheers

Hi GEMAC

Your option does not suite me sorry, I have the vehicle for what it was made for, getting out into the true Aussie bush and knowing that are hundreds of kilometres from anywhere.

As for s skinny vehicle, on one track a few years ago, even Mick O would have been rubbing his elbows on the thick bush even riding his quad, it was just that tight....LOL

Have to go along with that Allan - except that ours is an even older Troopy!

Actually we've just given it a decent polish for the first time in a couple of years and its amazing how well it has come up, pinstripes and all.

Cheers,

Val.

My solution: buy a white vehicle and then don't worry about it. It will get scratched, but they're hard to see. =)

As water is used to assist in it's removal, does rain water effect it?

Hi Capt

If it is wet when you are driving, no. Yes it will soften it a little but you have to feel it from the leading edge and then you have to use a good pull to get it off in one big sheet.

Cheers

Never worried about scratches on the cruiser. Each scratch just tells another story. Dents are just stories with bigger endings lol.
We had brush rails down the side which I think does help.

Yes - it will help when I eventually sell the ute.

This ones from the CSR, you'll have no problems getting there in this fine machine. This ones from the Gunbarrel, easy as.... These 20 are from bush bashing through the Great Sandy...you can do it too and add to the collection!!!!!

Will add about 5 grand to the sale price...lol

Personally I never bought a car for resale value. I buy it for a purpose and use it for that purpose. I don't buy a car cause it looks good in Toorak. When we sold the cruise we got top dollar for it. I had actually sold it and a guy offered my $4000 more for it. He bought sight unseen and never mentioned the scratches when he picked it up.
As I said we had side rails which does protect it very well. Our cruiser was about getting where others don't, not looking good when we got there lol.

Many thanks for the replies. Stephen, extra thanks for the pictures mate. You would think that the product should be a little bit more available instead of by mail order only. Perhaps Exploroz could be an agent, take the order and ship direct from the distributor?

Hi Mike

You have my vote for the EO Shop to stock it. I know that EO Member Mike O was going to ask them but I never heard any outcome, so if they read this post, it may prompt them to think about stocking it.

I know that there are a few other similar products out there, and until Ted spoke about Goop, I had never heard of that either and it would be interesting if Ted could tell us how much per litre it was. I know that TJM have a product called DucoArmour, where appears to be the same as the goGreen product, but nearly double the price.

I have a couple of years supply at home now and like I said above, will never do another bush trip without using it. Another very good example of another important use is have a look at the Maxtrax post down the page. You will see my vehicle in a very good bog in the Simpson Desert a few years ago. If I was using it them, it would have saved the paintwork on one side of the car.

Cheers

Mike, I second everything Stephen has said. It's great stuff. There have been various types on the market that are PVA based. Auto-Skin and Scratch-pro are two I recall. Auto-skin is now manafactured by Gogreen. I don't leave home without it. It does a great job at protecting the duco and it's only a simple bit of work at the carwash to remove it.

I did mention it to Adele at the shop sometime back but don't know what the outcome was.

Cheers Mick

David at goopguys delivered it it melbourne (0450-520102) Mick

$35 a litre - and it came with a roll of black masking tape, which was important
to create an edge such that it peels off later (must be generous with it ).

On our Colson track Madigan loop this year it did work well.

However I also invested in a home made car bra of shadecoth.

When all said and done I think this did more as it goes over gutters and things at the front end which is where the biggest problem occurs and one item keeps lots of stuff out of radiator etc.

The goop is better on large surfaces like doors etc

2nd warning - if it doesn't go on thick and with stright edges , it well be hard to remove.

Also be careful if applied over the vehicle decals, it seems to stick better to them than the metal. Best to apply extra polish to the decal area as recommended and removal will be easy.

Oil & dust maybe, but not rust. The old Landrover bodies were aluminium. That is why Lennie could lift one corner with one hand while he changed a wheel with the other hand! LOL
