Bought some towing mirrors whilst at the Kulin Races and had them fitted. I was very pleased with them. Good vision and a lot less bulky and easier to fit than the previous pair I had that had the strap going down the door.
Problem is that on our last trip it was a bit windy and the mirrors kept flapping back into the Cruiser as if hit by an oncoming vehicle. I got onto the guy that fitted them and he ONLY THEN told me that this problem was unique to the 200 series and all sets he'd fitted to the 100 series didn't flip back. He told me that it should be fine though and I could get Toyota to adjust the springs and it would be fine.
Well the old girl is in for her service today and Toyota have told me that the springs can't be tightened or adjusted. I am really loathed to have to use my old mirrors again as I was so pleased with these. Had anyone got any prevention ideas or solutions to stop them retracting in windy conditions???

Been there done that. The ultimate would be buy some Clear View mirrors. I settled for ORC, which clip onto the side mirrors with a support stay down to the side of the door.
I also discovered by clipping to the bottom of the side mirror the support stay is at a better angle to stop the swing back. At around $160 it is a cheaper option than the Clear View $700.

Hi Phil. I have a set of Milenco that I got from Pommieland. They replaced a set of ORA that kept slipping off the Prado mirror heads. I lost one ORA completely with the support bar attached so when the Milenco came I tried the ORA support bar on one. I had to use a piece of corrogated plastic tube to make up the diameter on the mirror shaft but once fitted it was perfect. I then ordered a replacement bar for the passenger side and it too works great. If you google ORA you can find where to order the parts. Mine came from Canberra. Cheers,Bob.

Hi Phil,
I had a problem with my towing mirrors (mostly the driver's side) being flung back by the turbulence from B Doubles going in the opposite direction.

I solved it by getting a short length of bungy cord and attaching it to the mirror on one end and (after opening the bonnet) on the bonnet hinge point on the other. There's
enough clearance between the closed bonnet and the bodywork that it doesn't crush the cord too much and is easy to fit and remove.

Hope that helps.

Cheers,
Chris
