Hi everyone, I'm thinking of getting a rear view camera to go on the back of the caravan and was looking for some advice from my fellow travellers. Looking for quality at a reasonable price and if that could be done with wireless that would be even better. Thanks and merry Christmas

hi rossm1
have a look at www.precision vision.com.au
comes with a dash mount or a windscreen mount as an extra which is what my preference would be ive
had one with the dash mount but it was snapped of by a thief recently he was arrested on another job and had my gps and rev cam monitor in his bag got my monitor and gps back so will change to a screen mount as its easier to remove
had dash mount for 3 yrs but it is a stick-on type is left in position when the monitor is removed and is an idication that the vehicle has probably got a rev camera within
so is a drawcard for the ferrals to see to take a chance on smash and grab vehicle raid and take what they can
derrick at abr- business member on this site also has one that is near identicle to
mine
cheers

G'day
Ross M1
If you use a wireless transmitter unit you can have it wired to operate from your
park lights, or from a dedicated supply switched from the vehicle via the trailer plug, or from the van battery and have a hidden switch external which you operate at the beginning of the run.
Some units, not wireless just have long cabling to run the camera and it has to be connected at the same time as the trailer plug.
This system can be switched via reverse light supply or from an "in cab" switch which you operate when requiring the rear view. Maybe full time while going forward.
This system can be switched from either the in cab sw. and/or the reverse power. A diode is all you need in the reverse supply to the camera, so no power back feeds from the manual on switch system and lights up the reverse lamps.
As to which brand is best, I'm not the best one to ask about that but make sure it can be used full time so you have the option.
Many others use these all the time and have the experience in what works
well.

Ross,
I recently purchased a reversing camera system for the truck based camper I am building up. I did a lot of searching and looking before I purchased a system from the following
Elinz
I have no connection etc but found them very helpful and their products work for 24v which I wanted for the Isuzu truck.
I found that a lot of the cheap systems were flimsy and the screens not clear, got hot after being on for a while which cannot bode
well for lasting. I wanted one to be on all the time while driving and was advised that the better Japanese brand cameras like Sharp etc were more reliable.
I also went for a cable system as a simple test of one wireless system showed how easily the signal was blocked and therefore the body of a caravan or our camper would likely do so.
cheers
