Hi everyone,
I have a 2010 78 series troopy, GXL, complete with the blanked off sectionin the dash where a clock is fitted in some models. The clock is a multi function unit, with both the clock and a temperature gauge. These clocks are fitted as OE to the GXL 76 Series and I believe also to the new 79 series dual cab troopy.
No matter how much I ask Toyota, they are not forthcoming in telling me if the clock can be fitted in my car. They will only tell you if the item you are asking about is fitted as OE to your vehicle. Can anyone here tell me if the wiring loom on the 78 series is the same as the 76 and therefore can the clock be fitted?

Working on the basis that I installed a clock out of a 1993 75 series Troopy into my 2008 78 series Troopy I'd say yes!

G'day Rod,
Thanks for that however, my problem is that there is apparently some potential problems that just fitting a clock may bring. First, I would want it to be an exact fit, using the blanked off space ie, use the unit I mentioned earlier. I was told by an auto electrician that it may be that the temp gauge might hook up to one of the vehicle's computer sensors which would mean that unless the wiring loom is the same as the 76 & 79 series, it probably won't work and at $640 I don't want to do my dough.

Bloody expensive clock & temp gauge.
Why not just find an aftermarket set up, I'm sure you could get one for not a lot of dollars that would look pretty good and be just as functional.

I have a 2010 76 series and fitted the clock and temp gauge to
mine . I suggest you look to see if the wire for clock is there behind the plate . To check remove large radio surround to remove blank plate -the wire was tucked up behind. Also check for temp gauge wire/plug it is on the drivers side of radiator.I suggest you check the Lcool site as someone has posted photos of the clock and temp gauge unit a few days ago.
Hope this helps

Thanks for your help. Yes I know the 76 series (GXL) came with the clock as OE so I assume yours was not the GXL? I will check the site you mentioned. Thanks again.

Hi Peter -
mine is a GXL but the 2010 model did not come with the clock as standard in Australia so i fitted it myself a year ago.

I have checked the radiator, both sides and the only wiring I can find is the connectors for the headlights so maybe the wiring loom is different in the 78 series and 76 series? This seems to be getting bigger than Ben Hur so I might lose interest I reckon.
I have registered with the Lcool site some have said I should check and when they finally get back to me with their password etc, I will check what I can find there. Thanks for your interest and clues.

There is a thread on Lcool on this at the moment that gives the part numbers and saying that it definitely will fit.
It is about $600 for the clock though , a lot of $$$$$ for little information in return IMO

While on the troopy subject, my 2008 GXL doesnt have a dimmer dial for the dash, yet my 79 series ute did. Has anyone fitted one as I like driving with the dash dimmed to almost out, especially when using a spotlight at night.
Cheers
