I have a Hilux SR5 2006 model, I still have the original road tyres on it. They now have done 85,000 k's and still seem to have plenty of tread left.
Most of my driving is on the black stuff.
Is this unusual, or am I just a good driver?

Gday Wato35
If you have
young boys , like i have had, then one good Saturday night is about the limit with mums car tyres. Of course they no nothing about the rubber stuck under the mud guards . But you are doing
well with your tyres.I have had over 70000 on tyres on the old Patrol .

Love it !! and yep, I can associate with that one LOL.
I found it difficult to teach my
young bloke that whilst the speed limit might be 100 kmh, he did not have to achieve it from a standing start in the first 10 metres.

What are they Wato? Seems like excellent mileage from originals. Even though they might appear to have "plenty of tread" the actual measure is have they reached the top of the tread wear indicators. Once they have you're on shaky legal and safety grounds.

Certainly never got anything like that from a set of original tyres.
Have got 90,000 from two consecutive sets of Bridgstone Dueller ATs Light Truck tyres.

so what's that mate, 45,000 each? Just interested becaause I had the same, 694s but sold the car before long they wore out. Supposed to be good for puncture resistance but I was led to believe not brillant mileage from them.

actually, reading that again, looks like 90,000 each. Impressive. Are they the 10 ply?

Yep, it was two lots of 90,000. I am not one to let my tyres get too low before changing them so they were probably still roadworthy when I changed them. The second set had 70,000 on them when I did the
Oodnadatta Track,
Arkaroola and the
Gibb River Rd. A friend travelling with us had the standard Dueller ATs not LT. He had a total of 6 punctures/tyre failures my score was zero. One set 693s other 694.
Not too sure as to what ply rating they were but the current set is 8 ply rating (D694s)

I'm on my 5th or sixth set of BFG A/Ts over two Patrols and have always gotten 90,000ks to 100,000ks from all sets. Good value at the moment at around $260 each for popular sizes. Michael

Clearly Wato you drive like Miss Daisy ;-) I'd see that as pretty normal wear for road tyres that are given an easy life, kept aligned & balanced. Problem with older tyres though is they get hard & no longer provide adequate braking, traction & road holding towards the end particularly in the wet. With my muddies I'm happy with 40,000 km tossing them away at 80% before they go hard & become puncture prone. Discussions I've heard recently suggested tyres over 5 years old are technically unroadworthy now with some tyre repairers refusing to repair them???
Cheers Craig............

Good passenger tyres will do 50k, sh1t one up to 100k and there is special chanoze made breed that even sh1tt1er then sh1t one, yet can do only 20-30k. For 4WD good rubber will do up to 100K, sh1t one 150k and more. It is not that much bitumen or not, it is more like freeway or not - on freeways it stays far longer. And obviously hard core rock hoping can kill even best rubber in no time.
YMMV though.
