I have a Tiredog Sensor that connects, but shows zero pressure. It is possible it is blocked, and wondered if anyone has ever tried to clean or disassemble one?

Hi Garry,

I just had a look into a Tyredog sensor and there is a small hole which could become blocked I suppose but I would consider it unlikely. Does it still transmit a sensible temperature reading? If not then I would suspect an electronic fault.

Although experienced with small electronic instruments I would not try to dissemble one of these. Possibly better to contact the Australian distributor who is Zylux Distribution Pty Ltd, 166 Christmas St, Fairfield Vic 3078. Phone 03 9482 2203, email info@zylux.com.au and website www.zylux.com.au.

I have found them to be very cooperative.

Cheers
Allan

Garry,
Do not have the Tyredog brand, but suggest you change the battery if not already done so.

Maybe there could be a problem with the valve, try on a different tyre and see if you get a reading, to me if you get a reading it indicates a valve problem.

I would also try a re sync the sensor to the in car unit

Garry, I've got a set of Tyredogs and have experienced a similar problem.
Try:
1. Remove the faulty sensor and try it on another wheel that has a functioning sensor, if it registers then the fault is not with the sensor nor is the battery faulty.

2. Release about 2psi of air from that wheel this will clear the valve mouth of any dirt and refit sensor, I find this normally works.

3. Remove the battery from the sensor and wipe the battery and housing with a clean dry cloth.

4. If all of above fail replace battery.

Hope this helps
Mike

Thanks Mike,
I have tried all 4 steps, but still shows zero pressure. Changed to another tyre and the problem followed the sensor.

It does transmit the temp, so the actual internal pressure sensor must be either blocked or faulty.

I think I'll just have to order a replacement sensor.

Cheers, Garry

Hi Garry,

I have has a similar issue with one of my TyreDogs. I have a set of 6 (2 for the caravan) so I swapped one with the one of the caravans (not using the van for a while) and placed it in a ziplock bag and eventually it came good. I think the small particle of dirt must have dislodged. Do don't throw the old one away.

It's a good idea to keep them in a really clean bag or something when you remove them to place air in tyres etc as it does not take much to block them.

The small lithium batteries for the sensors are the same as my 200 series keyfob so that also a plus.

I have also found Zilux good to deal with.

Cheers

Thanks Pete.

I'll put it in a bag and pray over it.

After some research I found it was more economical to get a new unit off eBay than try and get the one sensor repaired in Aus. Replacement unit arrived in about four days.
