On the first of June 2013 i am planning on doing the
Canning Stock Route. I am looking for other 4x4ers who are interested in driving it as
well at the same time just to have safety in numbers. If interested let me know.

Sorry for the lack of info. I have 28 days in which to do the
canning stock route. I am down the south end of it but am not bothered at which end i start at. I have fully rebuilt a 1989 Nissan Navara to do this trip and nothing has been left untouched including
long range fuel tanks able to hold 300 ltrs of fuel. I will be taking my swag, sat phone, 5 watt
uhf radio eperb and my dog. I am the only one in my group going.

Good morning all, I have some bad news for you all, apparently I have to go to Queensland at the end of June for my mother in laws Eightieth birthday at the end of June, so I shall not be making the trip, at least not this year. I am now thinking of driving over to Queensland via the
great central road, and on the way back do the gunn barrel Highway take a week to drive over and a fortnight to drive back, with the grand kids and give them the experience of a life time, as they just love
camping out in the great outdoors. Any way have a great trip and I do apologise for not being able to tag along. thank you.

Outbacklooking, are you going from north to south....if so I would be interested.
I did the csr in July 2008 north to south, and when asked by ones travellers why....they all agreed with me.
No sun in your eyes, colours look better, dunes steeper, but without the moguls created by high tyre pressures from those heading north, and you get to meet new people ever hour, where most occasinally meet others when travelling north.

Hello Bush Wanderer, we are in NSW & will be at
Fitzroy Crossing for a reunion from 1st-4th August & looking at doing the CSR round that time from North to South. We have thought about taking roughly 3 weeks for the CSR & probably back home via Greta Central Road.
Looked at a tag-a-long but pricey & times don't fit. We did the Simpson in 09 & have previously been to
Cape York, NSW-
Vic high country etc.
We have a 96 Landcruiser with
snorkel, HF & UHF radios etc. Previously we have camped but are looking at taking an Aussie Swag flip-over camper trailer.
We are interested to hear from anyone doing the trip about that time.

Hi OBL,
Some people want to drive the Canning in a minimal amount of time (maybe 8 or 10 days) while others spend 3 or 4 weeks doing it. And it can be a real test of people as
well as vehicles. So to find a suitable travel companion(s) you could maybe outline a bit more about yourself - how much time do you want to take, your vehicle, how will you be travelling - (
camping, tent, trailer etc), outback driving experience, what gear especially recovery gear you have, preferred daily schedule (eg start/stop early or late)and so on.
Cheers,
Val.

Hi,
We are leaving
Perth on the 22nd May 2013, travelling up the Great Central Highway to
Alice Springs to meet another 4x4 (travelling from
Brisbane) on 29th May. After spending a day or so in
Alice Springs we will head up the Tanami to
Halls creek and after restocking we will
camp at Wolfe
creek on the night of 4th June. The next day we are going down the
Canning Stock Route. We have allowed 20 days and intend to see all there is to see and
camp at a couple of the better spots for two nights.
Our plans are to get back to
Wiluna about 25th June where the Eastern states vehicle will part for home (back up The Great Central H/Way and we will head back to
Perth via
Sandstone, Mt Magnet and
Paynes Find.
The
Perth vehicle is a new
Ranger turbo diesel with slide on camper back and two retired gentlemen (old farts) The truck is
well set up and the driver and co driver are experienced (
Simpson Desert,
Cape York, Anne Beadell,
Googs track ect all in the last few years)
The Qld vehicle is a near new LC 200 Sahara twin turbo V8 diesel with all the fruit. very experienced driver (
Simpson Desert,
Cape York, Anne Beadell,
Googs track ect all in the last few years) The driver and co driver are also of the 60+ vintage.
Last year we found a travelling companion here on ExploreOz when we advertised we were doing the Anne Beadell and it worked out great (Bravoman tagged along with us) we have remained good friends, So we do intend to advertise again a month or so before we depart.
Lets know more about yourself and we can meet up, if your interested, and discuss plans.
Steve M.

Hi and thank you for your reply. I am 42 and have been 4x4ing for a few years now but never done a off road trip as long as the CSR. I have 2 4x4's one being my Landrover Discovery and the other being a Nissan Navara that i have been doing up just for the CSR trip. Im married 20 years 5 kids but im the only one who is interested in doing the CSR as my family and friends are not really into 4x4ing. As for my plans for the CSR
well i wish to see as much as i can so am free to a just my days to work in with other people. If you would like to email me outback4x4ing@gmail.com we can have a chat off line or any other way that you feel comfortable with. looking forward to hearing from you regards Brett

I've read a few of Len Beadell's books re building those roads...are they any "easier" than they were when he and his team first travelled that countryside?!

Hi, I don't think so Robyn, as most of them don't see the grader that often. After they put the roads in they would have been very smooth.
A different story before they put the roads in, for obvious reasons.
Beadell and his team didn't put the CSR in anyway just a few of the surrounding roads :-)
Cheers
Alan
