OziExplorer Map Merge

I am attempting to merge some maps together but fore some reason I am unable to select the maps to merge. I have a folder selected and ticked, I have the maps listed below in the selected maps window, but I just cannot access the box to tick the selected maps. There is obviously something very fundamental that I'm missing. Any hints?

I have used Map Merge before but not the latest version (1.21). I am using the free version which means I can only create ozfx3 files.

Thanks

Hello

This problem occurs when the program cannot find the actual map image for the map in question. OziExplorer uses two files for maps, one is the map image itself (ecw, tif, jpg, ozfx etc) and the other is the calibration file associated with each map image (*.map).

Within the *.map file is information (file name and in some cases file path) that allows OziExplorer to identify which map image the calibration data applies to.

When you load maps into Mapmerge the *.map files contained within the folder you select are read and the relevant image searched for and loaded. If the program cannot find the map image the name still appears but cannot be selected (i.e. ticked).

Several solutions to this problem but the easiest is to place the map image in the same folder as the *.map files. This way OziExplorer will have no trouble finding and loading the map images.

Cheers

Greg,
Thanks for taking the time to reply. I should have elaborated and written that the maps are found, just not selectable in the map list of map merge.

As it turns out, the maps I was trying to merge were the Spatial Vision, Victoria 50k maps. On investigating further, I realised the maps are protected and so they are not selectable. I don't know how they are protected, but I cannot find any indicators in the map file. During my investigation,

Hi Greg,
Thanks for taking the time to reply to my post. I was always able to find the maps when I loaded the path for the maps, but I could not select them to merge. I now understand the reasons why.

The problem was that the maps (Spatial Vision Victoria 50k), are "protected " somehow. When I looked at the contents of the map file and compared it to a map file of a selectable map I could see no obvious protection mechanism. That's my next challenge to overcome.

Hi

Spatial vision maps are as far as I know in Ozfx3 format and as such should not be protetcted from use with mapmerge ("protection" wont have anything to do with whats written in the *.map file....but the image format itself).

"I should have elaborated and written that the maps are found, just not selectable in the map list of map merge"

I understood that bit, thats exactly what appears to happen in my scenario - the maps appear to be found and are listed ...but are not selectable because the actual map image could not be located..

...as indicated before this problem (if it is the problem) can be overcome if you place the map image files (*.ozfx3) in the exact same folder as the *.map folders. You have not indicated that you have done this - please double check and let us know.

Also ensure you are actually using the latest version of Mapmerge (1.21) that supports ozfx3 format files. Older versions dont.

If the map files are protected in some way (I doubt it) then it is unlikely you will find an easy solution.

Cheers

Hi Greg
In answer to your questions:
Yes the .map and the image files are in the same directory, however, as a general point, as long as the .map file points to the correct image file and it loads the map into OziExplorer then there should be no problem. I agree with you that for simplicity in managing map files they should always reside in the same directory as the image file purely for simplicity of managing the files sake.

Yes I am running the latest version of map merge as indicated on the photos below.

I have loaded two images that should show you my problem.

The image below is of maps I've successfully merged in the past. Note the Status field.

The image below is of the Protected Map Image files from VICMAP Book 1:50K.

I'm not sure how I can overcome this conundrum

Thanks for you interest

Ok - thanks, sorry for repeating questions but needed to confirm setup.

Never seen that before with ozfx3 images (i.e. Protected Map Image). Must be special ozfx3 format made inhouse by OziExplorer dudes.

Your best bet at this stage of the game is to maybe to contact OziExplorer guys direct (Email - info@oziexplorer.com ) to see if any solution exists. I figure not - rightly or wrongly thay have been made "protected" for a reason by Spatial Vision (or whoever).

Cheers
