Was just wondering. Our van just has the wooden floor showing from underneath. There is also the odd screw coming through from above. Is there anything worth using to coat the underside to give it more
water protection?

hi phill
is this under the new retreat
there used to be a silver paint with biteumin in it for galv tanks and i used that under my old viscount and it weather proofed the ply wood floor and the metal chassisand was still sound after 15yrs of use but i have also used chassis black but i prefer the silver as it reflects the heat in the summer time
hope you have a good run with the new replacement retreat
cheers have a gr8 xmas

I used some of this from Supercheap to do the chassis and underside of my van:

Bituminous Black Paint

Hi Phill,
I coated my van with Ornonoid heavy duty brush on bitumen coating. (Bunnings)
Cheers Steve

Another vote for Ormanoid, messy but very effective.

Another one for Ormanoid, I backed the camper up onto ramps and then tipped it either way so to make it easier to get at, might be a bit hard with a van though. Make sure you have a large drop sheet on the floor to stop the mess and good ventilation if doing it in a shed or garage.
I then slapped some silver frost stuff over the Ormanoid once the Ormanoid had dried to try and prevent heatsoak from the road, also made it easier to clean.

While I was modifying our van to be more rough road capable I was also looking for something similar to help make our van a bit more
water resistant.
Any tek screws that came through the floor underneath I cut shorter with an angle grinder and then covered them with a black mastic compound.
For the floor itself I used a Bondall waterproofing compound "Bondall Multi-surface Waterproofer"
Bondall waterproofer
It's very thin and easy to apply and I painted a few coats while I was underneath working on the van.
Regards Andrew.
