60L ENGEL LOUD THUDDING RATTLE DURING TRAVEL

We purchased an MT60FP one year ago, brand new. Sits in the back of the Prado, ever since day one it makes a loud thudding rattle when hitting the slightest bump, even on the bitumen. Tried strapping it in, makes no difference. Over the phone dealer says, shouldn't make that much noise and it must be due to the springs which house the compressor, he also said they can be locked up to prevent moving? I pulled the cover off and had a look, cant see any way to adjust springs etc. and nothing is broken. Other than that, it is a great fridge, nice and quiet when stationary and runs for 3 days straight off the second battery. I'm going to take it to a warranty repairer to see what they think, although it's been a year and I still haven't done it, but until I get there DOES ANYONE KNOW WHY THIS UNBEARABLE NOISE IS OCCURRING???

I would imagine it is similar to my 40L fridge in design.
There is nothing within the compressor to rattle and it only has one moving part, so that leaves the external case of the compressor to be moving on it's mounts system but while it does that movement perhaps the body of the compressor physically touches the case of the fridge or a bracket.
If you have the case off and can see the mount system you may be able to see where the contact area is happening and bend or move something to remedy it.

Look for a bright worn metal contact patch on something close to the compressor case.
Physically move the compressor by hand so you can begin to replicate the action which causes the noise. That might lead you to the offending area.

G'day Hoffy1

Many years ago I had a very simular drama with my first Engel fridge ~ a 60 litre unit.

The loud heavy sounding thud turned out to be the swing motor/compressor mounting had failed internally, I can testify to the uneasy feeling you get when you hear this thudding even on reasonable road surface.

The fridge was repaired under warranty ~ the entire unit was replaced bar the outer body/lid of the fridge and it is still going strong since 1982.

Safe travels :

Your dealer is correct. You can't see what is making the noise.

It needs to be repaired under warranty. Organise asap if it's close to being out of warranty.

The same thing happened with my 30 litre Engel.

I'm glad I ain't too scared to be lazy
