Watching that video of Georges the other day has motivated me to get off my backside and string a few video clips together so I can get this years
blogs sorted out (better late than never).
This is a few grabs of our journey along the Talawana from the Eagle, through
Well 23 where we took on a couple of hundred litres each (others were not so fortunate and we found four recently delivered drums had been stolen) before heading on west towards Rudall. We visited a brimming
Midway well along the way.
Merry Xmas everyone and long distance best wishes to Jaydub and Suze and Pete and Sandy who are still travelling about the US in their F-Trucks and campers.
Cheers and here's to 2013 and a year of great travels for us all.
Mick

Thanks for sharing the video Mick. Was curious how this fuel dumping system works. How is it that yours were there and their's wasn't and how did you know which drum was for who? Sounds complicated question but it weren't meant to be. Was there any danger that someone could have just used your fuel, believing it was theres?
I am just wondering how much of a lottery it would be to have fuel left.
Does it all rely on peoples good will and honesty?
Have a great Christmas.

Many a thread on the
Capricorn Roadhouse on EO Phil. Fuel is ordered and paid for through the
Capricorn Roadhouse in
Newman. They drop it off as near to your anticipated date of arrival at
Well 23. Each drum has your name written on the top.
They had a big problem with theft some years ago and stopped delivering. The problem was believed to have been addressed with the local communities but this year we arrived to find four drums that had been delivered only a few days before, missing. Now I can't say for sure where they went but one doesn't have to be
Sherlock Holmes to figure it out especially with fuel prices at $4.00 per litre in some communities.
What the impact of this will be on future deliveries to the CSR I cannot say but it would be a shame if people were forced to carry extra or travel off route to communities for fuel.
Merry Xmas, Mick

Cheers Mick. Thanks for the follow up. I guess you were lucky that the next people didn't just help themselves to your fuel. It'd set up a whole chain reaction.
Not good really as someone could get left stranded.
Have a great season mate.
All the best

Could be ugly mate but Capricorn are pretty good at sorting out a response. As it was there was a drum there for Kenny Maidment (of
Well reconstruction fame) so they were able to use that. Goes to show the value of a satphone out there.
I trust you noted Jaydub's home made 44 gallon Tanami pump. Now that was a blessing. Compressed air saved a hell of a lot of arm power lol.
Cheers Mick

Nice little teaser Mick!
Perhaps you would consider doing a Saturday Matinee to sit between Friday Funnies and Doug's Sunday History Sessions!
Have a Great Christmas - all the best to you and yours.
Cheers

Nice Video as usual Mick we are a bit disappointed we didn't get a box of chocs from you for Xmas though for flattening the spear grass and carving a few detours on the Eagle so you could see where you were lol
We were at Midway on the 18/19 of June and the
water level looks a little higher than when we were there we went back to the old
windmill site and the
water out of the
bore was excellent so we stayed and did the usual, happy hour grease up and washing mainly in that order.
All the best for the festivities and New Year Dave and Pauline

Mate you know that you only get chocolates for camel removal and with two Oka's I thought you would have been fighting for the opportunity to drag those beasties off the track. Larry reckons you could have cleared a few dead branches as
well. He copped a hole or two in the big Michies on the Mog.
Trust you and Pauline will have a happy Xmas and all the best for 2013. Hopefully we'll catch up somewhere out back in 2013.

G'day Pal,
Another great little snippet to keep the dream alive. Trust you and Queen V are both fit and
well and are enjoying the season.
Just talking to Pete and Sandy and I think I prefer
the desert to a 4hour snowstorm, having to shelter behind a
barn and then having to negotiate a couple feet of snow and all the brakes frozen...bbrrrrr
Lets hope 2013 gives me some time off for travel.
Take care, stay safe and happy.

Another terrific video from the Mick O collection,
well done!
Curiosity questions,
What camera do you use for dashboard mounting?
How do you mount it?
Thanks,

Geoff,
I'm using a Sony HDx handicam that's now 3 years old. It's on a camera mount, 50mm arm and handlebar mount from RAM systems. The handlebar mount is fixed to the Jesus handle on the A Pillar and adjusted to be out of the drivers way (as per photo). All of these bits and bobs can be ordered through GPSOz
The RAM parts I got are listed below (straight from the gps oz website);
Camera mount base RAM-B-202A $15
3 inch arm RAM-B-201 $18
Clutch/brake clamp base RAM-B-309-1 $18.
When I got this part it had this "Handlebar spacer for smaller bars (1/2 inch) RAP-319 $3" already in it.

Great stuff Mick, thanks; only another 210 sleeps till I hit the sands again.
Could you let me know what editing program you use. I am going to put a few promotional clips for the Club and have been practising with Windows Live Movie Maker, but the results don't look like yours.
Cheers.

JB I'm using good old Windows Movie Maker. I'm using 1920 x1080 HD clips and then "Publishing" it as an Mpeg4 720 HD clip. The finished product is then uploaded to Vimeo for hosting.
Here's to 2013 travels.

Hello Mr O
Great video..may have to invest in one of those gadgets ...
Anyway ..did a "raid" along
Talawana Track east out of
Newman in October 2012. Spotted a 44 behind a
sand dune at our second
camp site about 20km east past the Parnngurr (Cotton
Creek) turnoff...now I know where it came from (still had some fuel it it if anyone wants the co-ords:)
Didn’t get as far as
Well 23 as headed south but just west of
Georgia Bore the country was a bit fried after fires started by lightning strikes (
well most of them).

South of Talawana Track
Lots of camels

Talawana Track Camels
Dust storms on the CSR during a thunderstorm near
Well 22 were also a treat.

Dust and Thunderstorm CSR Well 22
No surprise, but don’t recommend October excursions to this area (I had no choice) – nearly as hot as
Perth is now :)
Cheers
Greg
