What is the road from Quilpie to Thargomindah road [Dowling Track] like? Is it sealed?
Hoping to tow a van down that way next July.
Thank you.

Hi yu GaryT
The Dowling Track was discussed on this forum recently, if you go to the box above where it says "text search" and type in Dowling Track, all the threads will come up and you should get the answers to your questions.
Cheers

Hi garytee. I drove it from south to north about 15 months ago. It is sealed for about 75% of the distance. A long sealed section from Quilpie to south of Toompine and a about 20 km was sealed at the southern end. Work was in progress on about another 10 km to the north of the southern sealed section. More is probably done by now. Back then the unsealed section was good graded gravel and towing would be no problem. There could be problems on the unsealed section after rain, depending on how much.
Cheers,
Kevin

I traveled this road from Thargo' to Quilpie in late August. It was gravel but no problems. I towed a Kimberley Karavan over it but you could have driven a Commodore or Falcon on it.
Tyre pressure down and also speed and drive to the conditions and you will have no problems.

It's a very pleasant drive from Quilpie to Thargo now that there is some feed about. That section of the road is nearly all sealed, only about 30 k's of usually good gravel between Toompine and Thargo. You'll get a great steak sandwich at the pub in Toompine! Cheers Toni
