Santa brought me a top of the range pair of
driving lights so I thought I'd better invest in some lock nuts to stop them wandering off. Interesting to see that a full set (20 of) good quality locking wheel nuts are $38 but two 12mm lock nuts suitable for
driving lights are only a couple of bucks cheaper at $35 a pair....Why ?
My last whinge for 2012.

Hi racinrob,
The locking nuts that are sold for bull bar mounted lights are really not that secure, all you need to do is grab the body of the light and turn left to right this will most certainly loosen the lock nut, for $35 you can buy NYLOC nuts by the dozen and use these with a small piece of C channel to make it harder to get a spanner from below the bull bar.
Cheers Jim

I gather the idea is for you (and me) to use sockets which most thiefs do not carry. Right?

The theft of
driving lights are few and far between and I have never used anti theft nuts.
However what we do is replace the factory mounting bolts with socket head button or cap screws and the nuts with nyloks with Loctite 277.
The thieves will find it too hard to steal and as an added bonus they will not come loose over rough roads.
The best thing is to notify your insurance company of the new arrivals and take some photo's as support.
The other thing you can do is to put a earth loop wire to them connected to you horn via a relay...... when the wire gets disconnected the horn goes off.

Another thing I have seen is
the nut with a small hole drilled in it, and in that hole is a grub screw, which requires and allen key to remove.
Also seen
the nut welded on.
