Just wondering what will become of these two roadhouses?

As far as I know, the Pink Roadhouse is still open with Lynnie operating it. I do see it is listed for sale. The particular listing at the link below was updated on 19 Dec 2012:

Listing on realcommerical.com.au

I found it listed on other real estate sites too. Does anyone know if she plans to keep it open until it sells? Or does she plan to "retire" at some point, meaning it will shut down if not sold?

As for Rabbit Flat, I found this on their website: "The Central Land Council in Alice have been attempting for some years to construct a facility in the general area to cater for the wide range of clientele. They are working positively to this end but it is still a work in progress." So something may take the place of the Roadhouse. But it's not clear if it will be on the same property (or using the same water resources)?

At any rate, glad I visited both those roadhouses during my 2008 trip!

As far as I know, Lynnie & the girls will keep the Pink Roadhouse open, at least until it is sold, then who knows what the new owners will do with it.

I would certainly have a look at that for $1,000,000.

Pinks have be on the market for a far few years now, I don't think it will close as it's the life blood of the community.

Thanks.

Without fuel at Rabbit Flat, there is no fuel between Halls Creek and Yuendumu, correct? My map (a few years old) shows fuel at Billiluna and Balgo, but aren't they closed communities? I took these pics on 24 May 2008:

Can you get fuel there without having a permit in advance?

As i understand it Candace, you may enter these communities to make purchases, however i would always phone first, well ahead of time.

May have changed but struggled to get fuel on a Sunday a few years ago.

Ringing ahead and finding opening times is also important. Not on the Tanami route, but Kintore is a classic.

Even then, the attendant said they are sometimes closed on a Tuesday - or on any other day they chose. You cannot guarantee you will get fuel here every day of the week.

Wow, I have no idea what their Saturday hours are, LOL!

Thanks for the responses!

On my trip, I filled up in Halls Creek and that lasted me to Alice Springs (only side trips were to Yuendumu and then up the Stuart to the Tropic of Capricorn monument). So I avoided the expense and potential hassles of fueling up along the Tanami. But the $255 fill-up in Alice was an eye-popper!
