Anyone upgraded a Dash in an 80 series Cruiser??

Gday,
I was just wondering if anyone else out there has Upgraded a DX dash set up to the GXL style???
If so, how much is involved in regards to Wiring loom / sensors / switches / terminals etc etc etc .........
As Most vehicles normally have the same wiring harness between top of the range and bottom of the range models i am Hoping its a fairly simple "Plug and Play" kind situation (ie connect taco wiring, install oil pressure switch and connect to loom ... etc etc)
But would love to hear from any one else that might have done this, and if they found any trick, or have any tips....

I did try a couple of years ago, but the dash lights such as the high beam and oil lights etc didn't link up correctly , so I had the old unit repaired and put back in.
