talk to an auto electrician about an electronic one running off the alternator -I got one set up on my tdi landrover for about $200

I'm not sure where on the alternator it comes off, but the electronic tacho takes a reading, and once its calibrated right it'll give you a reading of your engine speed. An auto electrician should be able to sort it out for you.

Patroljocker.
You need to get a tacho of another diesel 2or4 cyl and connect it to the terminal marked "n" on the alternator. the calibration may be wrong but if you open up the unit you will find a calibration pot. Good luck, Eric.

I thought it was only the Mavericks which came without a tacho.
You can buy the tacho sender from Nissan (or a wrecker) which bolts in on the timing chain cover at the front of the engine (remove a small plate with two bolts). It just bolts straight in. The wiring is already there in the loom, and if you can get a Nissan GQ tacho from a wrecker (make sure it's a diesel), it just bolts onto the circuit board in the instrument binnacle.
