Bungle Bungles to Gibb River Road??

I want to drive east west on
Gibb River road but also go to the Bungle Bungles. Are there any tracks that go from around the Bungle Bungle area north west sort of to the
Gibb River Rd so I would not have to back track to near Kununnurra before joining the
Gibb River Rd??? I cant see any but some one may know of a track?

Hi mfewster, That's a no, you will have to turn right at the of the Victoria Hwy and The Great Northern Hwy. It is only a short run to the bungle bungles from their.

Out of interest, what's that track like these days? Last time I did it in 2000 in a 2.8D Hilux with leaf springs all round, and it was rough as guts and slow going.

Was their in September last year. Road was in good condition with some rough patches from
camp ground to
Echidna Chasm.

Which road Russelr? The Gibb or the entry to the Bungles? The Gibb is a very good dirt road these days once the graders have done their stuff in the dry, but that Bungles access road! Phew! Way too many drivers driving way beyond the conditions! You don't see a lot of these types of drivers in the more remote areas though, which can only be a good thing!

Sorry mate, was referring to the Bungles access track. The GRR was pretty routine, even for leaf springs. The only other rough part back then was the access road from the
Kalumburu Road to
Mitchell Falls
campground. When we were driving out from the Bungles we crossed paths with a Commodore station wagon heading in. From that point the track seemed much smoother.
