Day 58 Snubnose Dolphin Cruise

Today we were up early to go on a Snubnose Dolphin Cruise to experience the magic of Roebuck Bay, home to one of Australia’s largest populations of elusive snubfin dolphins. They closely resembles the Irrawaddy dolphin and were not described as a separate species until 2005. The closest relative to the genus Orcaella is the killer whale, Orcinus orca. The Australian snubfin has three colours on its skin, the skull and the fins also show minor differences.

Unfortunately these dolphins are not like there Eastern sisters and brothers they had no interest at all in the boat we were in and only travel in groups of 2 -3 instead of pods. So they are very hard to find and photograph as they don't play in the waves etc.

To board the boat we had a very interesting vessel that had a hydraulic system to lower it for easy boarding then if raises in the air and rides the sand on wheels until it hits the water and then the propeller of the boat takes over. So much easier than our walking in the water boarding and then trying to get into the boat.
















We returned to get the car and go to the windscreen replacer to have a chip we got from a passing vehicles rock hitting the windscreen on the way to Broome. We were very fortunate as they were not sure if the repair would crack the window however it didn't and we now have the chip fixed so it will not crack on our further journeys.

Yesterday was the full moon so the Staircase to the Moon could be seen here in Broome for three nights. So we went to the park at Main Beach early in the afternoon as the crowds are very big and the public transport will only take a bus load then no more people. So we thought we would have a early afternoon resting in the park and watching the world go by.
