ExplorOz - David & Michelle

This morning we had some more good dune country to travel so we took some GoPro footage from the top of our sand flagpole. By mid morning however we had joined the main Voakes Hill to Cook Road but it was not as easy going as expected. It was rocky & corrugated but had some unexpected points of interest to explore. We reconfirmed various Place positions that we found were incorrectly positioned on our Geoscience topo & Hema, eg. Tanks, ruins, rockholes etc. We always take a photo of every landmark using our smartphone so the inbuilt GPS can log a Place update accurately when we send it via email back to the ExplorOz server ( Of course the email sits in the phone's outbox until we drive into an area with mobile service but doing field updates this way is so efficient, accurate & effective!!

Whilst we slow things down doing all this data logging, no one in this group minds as they are also stopping to analyse & photograph plants. However today would be our last day all together as John B & Chris skipped lunch & went ahead to take an alternative excursion.

So with just 1 less in our group we regrouped for lunch at the top of the only rise on this barren plain.

We arrived at Cook early afternoon & said our sad goodbyes. 6 cars headed back to Maralinga to begin the next part of the journey, whilst Graeme & Jo from WestPrint travelled south with us with the plan of reaching the Eyre Highway at Nullarbor Roadhouse for fuel before going our separate ways. (This section of our trip will be used in an upcoming Trek Note we'll call Nullarbor Roadhouse to Cook).

We found a few blow holes, tanks & bores along the way but blew a tyre (sidewall tear) which meant we had to make camp at Knowles Cave. It was a top spot & we enjoyed a great night with Jo, Graeme & their son Adam.

Dinner was a lamb rogan josh with rice.
