The Pilbara - Tom Price and Mount Nameless

Saturday 3rd June
Tom Price WA.

We were up at 7.00 a.m. and had an early breakfast before packing up and beginning the short 80 km into Tom Price. We again revelled in the majestic scenery on offer on the drive through to Tom Price. Everything was so green. At times it looked as if all the ranges were covered in moss (a slightly more prickly version though when one gets up close!) really softening the rugged red of the ranges.

We reached TP a tad after 10 a.m. and went straight to the park and checked in. It’s a nice little park nestled in the lee of rugged ranges and with Mt Nameless towering above on its southern side. I decided that enough was enough and that it was time to try and remove a bit of the red dust from the trailer, tent and cover. While Amanda set the washing, I scrubbed and hosed off the tent canvas and the trailer cover. It’s tough stuff to remove so the tent doesn’t look much different. The cover came up a treat and the door mat is a lot less dusty also.

We did a quick shopping trip into Newman and then returned for lunch before mounting an expedition to the top of Mt Nameless. It was an easy but steep drive open to 4x4 vehicles only. The extensive panoramas gained in all directions from the top were well worth it. There was a cleaning frenzy during the late afternoon. I did the inside of the vehicle while Amanda did boxes. All very good. The sky is overcast again so I’m expecting rain overnight.
''We knew from the experience of well-known travelers that the
trip would doubtless be attended with much hardship.''
