Edition 172: 8th January 2009

Hi ExplorOz Reader,

Wow, another year has gone by and we are now cruising through 2009. Do you have your resolutions planned? Maybe this is the year you plan for that nice big trip? Whatever the case - the team is here to fulfill all your mapping and navigational needs.

Just Returned from a Trip?

If you are an ExplorOz Member, why not share your recent trip with the rest of the ExplorOz community. Member blogs are a great place to tell your story, and share all your adventures, mishaps, laughs and milestones. If you have taken some great photos - they can be incorporated into your blogs too. Even Videos can be added, just ensure you upload them first to a Vimeo or YouTube account and then you can embed your video into your blog. Quality blogs with videos have been added by a few members lately, see Member- Equinox and Member - Mick O (VIC) for examples of what can be done in your Member Blog!

What’s happening in Places?

Over the Christmas/New Year period we noticed a generous amount of Place updates so thank you to everyone who took the time to contribute photos and descriptions.

When you're reading the Forum (or any articles and trek notes) you may have noticed that some Place Name words are shown as links with hover activated bubbles with a photo and some info. This is a new automated keyword link system that looks for any matches to Places (provided the place has a photo) - so keep adding those photos!

The backend of Places has had a system update with refreshed layers for airports, and populated places, plus we've added contours. The lines of the contour layer provides the elevation information.

Not an ExplorOz Member?

No worries, we recognise that many "visitors" choose to play a role in the growth of the ExplorOz website in other ways. In fact, updating or creating a new Place, adding photos, entering Ratings (Places & Shop), entering comments in Road Conditions reports, or submitting Trek feedback are just some of the very useful ways that visitors are contributing everyday. So thanks to all the ExplorOz visitors who are using the system and making the effort to share their information.

Wondering if Membership is for you?

For many, being a Member means you become an integral part of the ExplorOz Membership community. However, there are big savings for Members using our shop and trader with free postage*, and the earnings of Member Money (the more you buy, the more you save) - in fact, for every product you purchase* 5% of the value is accrued in your Member Money account, which you take directly off the cost of your next purchase. And the savings don't stop there - depending on whether you buy an annual or lifetime Membership, you'll also get either 1 or 5 free "Display" Trader Ads (worth $12.95 each). Add this to the rest of your benefits and Members Only site tools and it's clear that Membership is a good deal.
