ExplorOz Newsletter - Issue 65

29th July, 2004. In this issue: Variety Club - The Children's Charity, New Trek Note - Warraweena - Mt Gill, New Advertisers this Fortnight, Add Your 4WD Club Listing and Support ExplorOz.

Dear ExplorOz Reader,

As we publish this newsletter, David has just reached Newman for the start of the Variety Club 4WD Adventure Event, which kicks off tomorrow.

For the duration of this 9 day event, the ExplorOz vehicle has been fitted with the SatTrak24 satellite receiver. The GPS position of the vehicle will be transmitted at 10am, 12noon, 2pm, 4pm each day and sent to our webserver where we have incorporated the data into our own iMapPlot™ dynamic map interface.

This means that the public can view the progress of our event vehicle as it traverses the great lands of the Pilbara region in remote Western Australia. Each GPS position is shown by a time and date stamp and an orange dot on the map. The positions from Perth - Newman over the last 2 days have been plotted already so once the event finishes you'll see the entire route plotted on the map.

As with all maps in the iMapPlot™ mapping interface, you can zoom in, zoom out, pan and access the different layers depending on the scale you are viewing at the time showing you various features such as town names, rivers, stations etc.

So please take the time to View the Online Event and show your support for the ExplorOz Team - #515 and the Variety Club - "The Children's Charity".

Forum Sponsors

Birdsville Studio have recently started sponsoring various site pages, as well as the Forum. We can personally advise that no visit to Birdsville would be complete without experiencing this unique gallery of beautiful watercolour paintings of the desert whilst dining casually in the eclectic surrounds of the Caravanserai Cafe. We have been long-time friends with Wolfgang and his son Karsten who are true Birdsville icons - don't miss it!

Waeco  - keep an eye on the monthly specials advertised in the Forum for great portable fridge deals from a quality manufacturer. New special starts August 1st.
