The grounds sit right beside the site of the historic second Gillingarra School (which operated from 1938 to 1998)The Gillingarra School and church were relocated to a second site after the siding was established as a railhead in 1893. Funds were raised by bazaars and sports meeting at Yarawindah sports ground. Miss Margaret Butler was the first teacher in 1908, and a third generation teacher of a pioneer family in the area.
