Information

Frank Hann’s initials are cut into this boab beside Beverley Springs Road, in the Leopold Ranges. The tree is linked to Hann’s 1898 journey through this rugged Kimberley country, when he became the first explorer recorded as penetrating the ranges that had blocked earlier attempts. Blazed trees like this were practical markers — a way of recording passage and helping define a route through difficult terrain. More than 125 years later, the mark remains, enlarged by the slow growth of the boab itself.
