This detour is used when Eyre Creek is flooded at the QAA crossing. Vehicles must detour and drive 30 km north parallel to the dunes and ford the creek on a rocky crossing. Then drive back 30 km south to rejoin the QAA line. So a 60 km detour to end up less tahn a km from the detour start.
