Myall Creek - NSW

Myall Creek Massacre occurred in 1838. A whole family of Aborigines, about 30 women, children and old men who lived on Myall Creek Station, were hacked and slashed to death, by 10 or 12 Caucasian stockmen. In an era of government sanctioned genocide, this ‘incident’ stands out because the perpetrators were brought to trial, and 7 men were hanged for the crime. 162 years after the massacre, a Memorial to the Aborigines of Myall Creek was dedicated on June 10th, 2000.
