Kidston is a historic gold-mining ghost town turned clean energy hub located about in the Shire of Etheridge, Queensland. The
mine shut down in June 2001 after producing over 3.5 million ounces of gold. The old town remains and features a
heritage-listed state battery.Pumped Hydro: The 250 MW Kidston Pumped Storage Hydro Project uses two old
mine pits (Wises Pit and Eldridge Pit) as
water reservoirs to store power.
Solar power: Large photovoltaic solar farms generate clean electricity on-site to help run the system and feed the national
grid.This is a restricted area now and there is no public visitor center,
lookout point, or
rest stop here.
