Vlaming Head Lighthouse was built on the North-West tip of North
West Cape 61 metres above sea level and was completed in 1912.
History
Quarters for two lightkeepers were built below the
hill to the north of the lighthouse. A tramway with horse drawn trolleys was provided for bringing stores from
the beach landing which was to the southwest.
The light was discontinued in 1967 and a new light established on one of the radio communication towers near
Point Murat. The
ruins of a WWII radar tower are a short distance north of the light tower.
